Olympics: Men's 57kg Boxing Betting Preview

Abdulmalik Khalokov is on the hunt for a first Olympic medal in the men's 57kg boxing division this summer.

We take a look at the major players hoping to make history for their nations at Paris 2024.

Abdulmalik Khalokov (3/1)

Khalokov has enjoyed a glittering amateur career so far. Beginning with gold medals in the Youth Olympics and Youth World Championships, the now 24-year-old began his senior career at 60kg.

Khalokov secured a world silver and Asian Games bronze at lightweight before dropping down to 57kg, where he claimed gold at the World Amateur Championships in his home country of Uzbekistan last year.

He also won gold at the 2022 Asian Games before making his professional debut in November 2023.

Khalokov moved to 1-0 with a second-round knockout but has now shifted his attention back to securing gold in Paris this summer.

He comes in a steady favourite (3/1) to replicate his prior success and claim the biggest mantle on offer in the vested code.

Makhmud Sabyrkhan (7/2)

The 22-year-old has moved up to featherweight after a fruitful career down at bantamweight. Sabyrkhan built on his silver medal at the World Amateur Championships in 2021 to win gold at the tournament two years later in Uzbekistan.

The Kazakh secured passage to his first Olympic Games with at the First Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy back in March.

Sabyrkhan comes in behind Khalokov on the betting odds but no doubt remains a threat given his strong amateur pedigree to date.

Jahmal Harvey (19/4)

America's Jahmal Harvey is also preparing for his first appearance at an Olympics. The 21-year-old qualified for Paris 2024 after winning gold at the Pan American Games last year, having previously won gold at the 2021 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

The Maryland native was the first American boxer to win an elite title since 2007 and previously picked up gold at the Junior Olympics on two separate occasions.

He is the youngest of the three fighters discussed so far but remains a name to watch out for both during and beyond the Games this summer.

Javier Ibanez Diaz (29/5)

Cuban-born Javier Ibanez Diaz won Youth Olympic Gold with his native country before switching allegiances to Bulgaria in 2018.

Having operated at bantamweight during his youth career, Diaz opted to move up to featherweight as a senior.

He already boasts a bronze at the 2022 European Championships as well as gold at the European Games a year later. The competition saw the 28-year-old secure qualification for Paris 2024 with a win over Armenia's Artur Bazeyan in the quarter-finals.
