Can Busenaz Surmeneli win gold at 66kg for the second Olympics running?

Busenaz Surmeneli (Evens)

Turkey's Busenaz Surmeneli is looking to win gold at a second consecutive Olympic Games in Paris.

Surmeneli emerged from Tokyo in top spot after beating China's Hong Gu by split-decision in the final in her first ever appearance at an Olympics.

The 26-year-old is also a two-time world champion at 66kg and most recently secured gold in the 2024 European Championships in Belgrade.

Surmeneli is heavily-fancied to repeat her Tokyo heroics with another winning performance in the French capital this summer.

Imane Khelif (5/1)

Algerian welterweight Imane Khelif is backed to secure a spot on the podium at Paris 2024.

Khelif made her first Olympics appearance in Tokyo three years ago, where she was eliminated at the quarter-final stage at 60kg.

Nevertheless, she has since rebounded to claim gold at the 2022 African Championships before finishing runner-up at the World Championships later that year.

The 25-year-old had reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Worlds before a failed blood test forced her to be disqualified from the tournament.

Winning gold is unlikely due to the exploits of the aforementioned Surmeneli, but a podium finish isn't out of the question for the Algerian.

Yang Liu (6/1)

World welterweight champion Yang Liu is also an outsider for gold heading into her first Olympic Games this summer.

The China native secured gold at the 2023 World Championships in New Dehli, four years after claiming silver in the tournament's previous iteration.

Liu also became a two-time Asian Games gold medalist when she beat Janjaem Suwannapheng in the 2023 final.
