Odds Now's darts tipster Terry Foord tees up a busy weekend of arrows action as the 2025 German Darts Championship brings the curtain down on the 2025 European Tour campaign.
The PDC European Tour is in Germany, Hildesheim, for its 14th and final stop of the season – the German Darts Championship.
Peter Wright lifted the trophy last year, beating Luke Littler in the final 8-5. We won’t see Littler in the competition this year, though, as he continues to swerve events hosted in Germany.
Stephen Bunting has carried his excellent Players Championship form into the closing stretch of the season, reaching the Semi-Finals in both PC31 and PC32.
He fell to Nathan Aspinall in the first, and most recently to Luke Littler – the eventual winner of Event 32. Despite averaging 107 against Littler, Bunting still lost, with the teenager firing in a 109 average before hitting 110 in the final to seal his Minehead spot.
Gian van Veen had a disappointing run in Players Championship 31 and skipped Event 32 altogether. However, he booked his place in the Youth Championship finals earlier this week and looks in great nick judging by his Grand Prix performance.
There was nothing he could do against a rampant Littler in Leicester, who was playing at a ridiculous level. Van Veen ended the match with a tournament record average of 106.47 – and that’s with double-in, double-out format in play. One to keep an eye on this weekend – especially with Littler out of the picture.
Nathan Aspinall looks to be finding form again, having recently hit two nine-darters in a single Players Championship event. He reached the final of PC31, losing out to Jermaine Wattimena, and followed it up with a Quarter-Final run in PC32.
Already a two-time European Tour winner this season (ET2 and ET8) – plus a finalist in ET3 – he clearly thrives in this format.
Jermaine Wattimena is enjoying a real purple patch right now. He claimed his second Players Championship title with victory in PC31 and backed it up with a Semi-Final run the very next day in PC32.
When he gets into rhythm his scoring is electric, and with the doubles flowing, he’s fantastic to watch. He rattled in 100+ averages in eight of his 13 matches across the week – seriously impressive consistency.
For me, Gerwyn Price is the one to side with in the outright market. The surprise withdrawal of Luke Humphries mades Price the most decorated of the remaining participants and yet we can still get a decent value price.
With second-favourite Josh Rock and third favourite Stephen Bunting on the opposite side of the draw, all Price needs to do is navigate a tricky quarter – where he'll be favourite for each of his games – and it looks fairly plain sailing up to the final.
At the moment, Luke Littler is pretty much the only player you genuinely fear in the draw. Everyone else looks beatable more often than not, which makes Stephen Bunting’s 14/1 price hard to ignore.
He’s looked razor sharp in recent floor events and has already picked up two European Tour titles this season — ET3 and the most recent ET13 in Switzerland.
The main concern with Jermaine Wattimena is that his excellent floor form doesn’t always translate to the European Tour or TV stages.
That said, at the prices on offer, I’m happy to take a chance — his current level is too strong to ignore, and he looks capable of going deep in this one.
2pts – Gerwyn Price to win the German Darts Championship – 6/1 (Bet365)
1pt e/w – Stephen Bunting to win the German Darts Championship – 14/1 (various)
0.5pts e/w – Jermaine Wattimena to win – 45/1 (Star Sports)
Total staked - 5pts
