Mike De Decker talks down Premier League 2026 hopes

World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker has admitted he could face a 'massacre' if the PDC include him in next year's Premier League line-up.

The Belgian was critical of the organisation for excluding him from this year’s tournament back in January, becoming the first ever Sky Sports major winner to not feature amongst the elite line-up.

However, despite reaching the final on his World Series debut last weekend in Australia, De Decker has underwhelmed thus far in 2025 – and he has now voiced his frustration to former pro Vincent Van der Voort.

De Decker claims a ‘massacre’ would await him in the Premier League

The Real Deal has never been one to shy away from airing his true feelings and offered a candid reflection of his year when quizzed by Van der Voort.

Speaking to the Darts Draait Door podcast, De Decker said: “Based on my season so far, they can't put me in next year. It's just not good enough.

“That could all change; there are still major tournaments coming. But right now I think: 'Please don't put me in because it'll be a massacre.'

"[Maybe] I shouldn't say that? Yeah, it's just honest.

"Right now I don't feel the Premier League [is] coming, but in six months that could be different."

Belgian must be wary of talking himself out of Premier League spot

Directly following his heroics last October that saw him dethrone defending World Grand Prix champion Luke Humphries, De Decker was coy on securing a spot in the PDC’s second most lucrative tournament.

He initially told Darts Now he wasn’t ready to compete on the big stage against the best players in the world every week, though the world number 19 later backtracked on this statement.

It’s hard enough for a debutant to break into the Premier League and it may be unwise for De Decker to shy away from a spot in interviews regardless of form.

There are a big five months left for the Mechelen-born man, and he will need to show the confidence and ability he displayed in Wollongong if he is to be selected next year.

His next opportunitiy to impress comes this weekend as the second part of a World Series double-header sees the PDC's best head to New Zealand.
