Albania welcome group leaders England to the Arena Kombetare on Sunday for a World Cup qualifier where the standings are already locked in.
Albania have secured their place in the play-offs, while England have cruised through Group K with a perfect record.
Even with qualification settled, there are still betting angles worth exploring as Terry Foord breaks down the form, stats and best bets ahead of kick-off.
If Albania were being honest at the start of this campaign, simply reaching the play-offs would have been considered a fantastic achievement.
They were never expected to push Serbia or England for top spot, but sealing second place in this group is a real step forward for Sylvinho and his improving side.
What has stood out about Albania’s run is the discipline and structure they’ve shown defensively. They come into this match having won four games in a row, all without conceding a goal – and each of those matches finished 1-0.
Their most impressive result of the group was perhaps that 1-0 away win in Serbia, a fixture that highlighted how well their Brazilian boss has them organised. The former Arsenal full-back has clearly instilled a mindset based on compactness, patience and hard work out of possession.
Albania rarely blow teams away, but they’re difficult to break down and increasingly comfortable managing tight matches.
England, meanwhile, could hardly have asked for a smoother qualifying campaign. Seven games, seven wins, zero goals conceded – the numbers speak for themselves.
They have scored 20 goals in that time and almost every match has felt like a formality. What makes the clean sheet run even more interesting is that England’s defence has been heavily criticised in the build-up to the World Cup, yet in this group they have been flawless.
Given their perfect record, Thomas Tuchel may well rotate the squad, but England’s depth is such that it barely weakens them. Players like Jarrod Bowen, who could easily be a starter, might get the nod here, while key names may be rested with the tournament on the horizon.
Even with changes, England will expect to control the match and maintain their 100% record.
England and Albania have met seven times and, unsurprisingly, England have won all seven. Albania have scored only one goal in those meetings, underlining the gulf between the sides historically.
Two of the last three meetings have gone under 2.5 goals, and the most recent fixture was England’s 2-0 win at Wembley in March. Combine that with Albania’s recent streak of low-scoring wins, and the pattern points towards another controlled and cagey affair.
If this match had something riding on it, the betting angles might be different. But with both teams already secure in their positions, it feels like a game where England do just enough, and Albania try to maintain their structure without taking many risks.
The hosts' last four matches have all been 1-0 scorelines, and England’s win earlier in the campaign against them was 2-0.
With rotation expected and neither team desperate to force the issue, under 2.5 goals becomes very appealing. England to win to nil also looks strong, given both teams' defensive trends and the gulf in squad quality.
The most realistic scorelines based on the data are 1-0 or 2-0 England.
