The highlight of Sunday’s football is the 4:30 pm GMT kick-off at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea entertain Arsenal. Both clubs enjoyed very positive results in the Champions League during midweek and will be looking to carry that momentum into this Premier League showdown.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord looks at whether this game is an early indicator of the potential title credentials for these two clubs as the top two in the league table go head-to-head.
Chelsea come into this game in excellent shape after a comfortable 3–0 win over Barcelona. The Spanish side were reduced to ten men after Ronald Araújo was sent off late in the first half, but it made little difference to the overall outcome as Chelsea dominated proceedings from start to finish. The standout moment was Estêvão’s superb strike to make it 2–0.
In the league, Chelsea have climbed into second place, helped by Liverpool and Manchester City dropping points, combined with their own strong run of form — three wins in a row and five victories from their last six matches.
Enzo Maresca has this squad working hard while still allowing attacking freedom, and defensive improvements are clear, with four clean sheets kept in their last five matches across all competitions.
Arsenal closely mirror Chelsea’s form and are also excellent defensively. Across the entire season, they’ve conceded just six goals in twelve games, averaging only 0.5 per match. Even away from home, Arsenal have allowed just four goals in six games and have lost only once.
After an impressive 3–1 win over Bayern Munich in midweek, Mikel Arteta’s side are playing with real confidence. Few would bet against Arsenal mounting a serious challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League at the level they are currently operating.
The most recent impressive win over Bayern was achieved without their main striker, Viktor Gyökeres. The Swede could return here but would likely start on the bench.
Arsenal holds a strong advantage in this fixture, having lost just once in the last twelve meetings between the sides. In the Premier League, Chelsea have managed only one win in the previous ten encounters, which came back in 2021.
That said, the last two league meetings at Stamford Bridge have ended in draws, which should offer Chelsea some encouragement.
These two sides rank first and second for xG (expected goals for) this season, while Arsenal also boast the best xGa (expected goals against) in the league.
Chelsea are now a very difficult team to score against as well, and it’s hard to see this turning into a high-scoring affair. A draw may suit both teams.
Under 2.5 goals have landed in each of the last two meetings, and this feels like another matchup where avoiding defeat could be prioritised over taking risks — especially at Stamford Bridge. A 1–1 draw looks a very plausible outcome.
Eberechi Eze is in excellent form and registered four shots on target in his last match, so I’m happy to back him for at least one attempt on target here. I’ll combine that with Pedro Neto, who has posted five shots on target across his last three appearances.
2.75pts – Under 2.5 goals – 10/11 (Bet365)
1.25pts – Correct score (1-1) – 11/2 (Bet365)
1pt bet builder – Neto and Eze 1+ shots on target, BTTS and both teams 1+ card - 6/1 (Bet365)
