It’s a real belter of a game on Saturday in the Premier League as Manchester United host Tottenham at Old Trafford in the 12:30pm GMT lunchtime kick-off.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord breaks down the key stats and betting tips for the big match that could see the end result having huge ramifications for both teams.
Manchester United continued their good form with a third win in a row in the Premier League, beating Fulham 3-2 at home. United led 2-1 after 90 minutes (which is what I had tipped the score to be), before Fulham equalised in the 91st minute. It looked as though Fulham had snatched a late point, but up stepped Benjamin Šeško with a dramatic 94th-minute winner.
It has been a very impressive start for new United boss Michael Carrick, who has now won all three matches since taking charge. United currently top the form table over the last six games and are unbeaten in seven.
To add to the positivity, Aston Villa suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat last weekend, while Manchester City could only manage a draw. The Red Devils now sit just five points off third place and six points behind second.
Tottenham, meanwhile, managed to claw back a point in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City. Spurs found themselves 2-0 down following goals from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo, but Dominic Solanke produced a fine double to rescue a point.
Tottenham would have been concerned to see Solanke go off in pain in the 90th minute. Thomas Frank has had injuries throughout the season and will be hoping his striker avoids joining an already lengthy injury list.
Despite taking a valuable point against City, Spurs are now winless in their last six matches and sit down in 14th place. Only Crystal Palace and Burnley have recorded worse runs over the same period.
Tottenham hold a strong recent record in this fixture. Manchester United have not won this match-up for four years, with their last victory coming in October 2022, when they won 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Across the last eight meetings, Tottenham have won five and drawn three.
The previous four encounters were all played on Tottenham’s home soil, but Spurs also won 3-0 the last time the sides met at Old Trafford.
In terms of goals, over 2.5 goals have landed in seven of the last ten Premier League meetings, with both teams scoring in five of those.
We have also seen over 2.5 goals in Tottenham’s last four matches, and in seven of Manchester United’s last eight home games.
There simply must be goals in this one. United have scored at least two goals in each of their last four matches, while Tottenham have conceded at least two in their last four.
With that in mind, Spurs do tend to perform well against the bigger sides, and especially against United, as the recent head-to-head record clearly shows. There is not enough value in simply backing United to win, but when you combine a home win with both teams to score, it becomes a bet worth taking.
In the bet builder, I’ll include Bruno Fernandes to score or assist. He has registered 17 goal contributions in the 21 matches he has featured in this season, underlining just how central he is to everything Manchester United do in the final third.
United have attempted 384 shots across the campaign, an average of almost 16 per match, compared to Tottenham’s average of 11. With the game being played at Old Trafford, that volume advantage should translate into United edging the shots-related markets as well.
2pts – Manchester United to win and teams to score – 9/5 (Coral)
1pt – Both teams to score, Fernandes to score or assist, Manchester United most shots, and both keepers to make 2+ saves – 10/3 (Bet365)
