Brentford take on Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, October 5th at 4:30 pm BST in the Super Sunday slot.
Brentford sit 13th in the table with two wins and seven points, but their home form has been solid — two wins and a draw from three. City are seventh with three wins and ten points.
Odds Now's football tipster Terry Foord shares his insights ahead of the big game and picks out his best bets.
Brentford were excellent in their last outing at the Gtech, beating Manchester United 3-1 and fully deserving the result. Keith Andrews’ side have now scored six goals in their three home matches and remain unbeaten there with two wins and a draw. The confidence they play with at home is clear, and the crowd really drives them on.
Their away form, however, has been the complete opposite. They’ve lost all three games on the road and conceded eight goals in the process. It highlights just how big the home advantage is for them, and being back at the Gtech for this one is a major boost.
Manchester City’s start has been underwhelming by their standards, but there are signs they’re finding their feet. They beat Manchester United 3-0, drew 1-1 with Arsenal, and smashed Burnley 5-1. The performances have improved, and they look sharper in attack again.
Their most recent game came in the Champions League on Wednesday — a 2-2 draw away at Monaco. Erling Haaland, as usual, scored both goals, but City threw it away late on by giving away a 90th-minute penalty. It was another reminder that defensively, they’re still not quite at their best.
In the 2022/23 season, Brentford famously did the double over Manchester City, winning both home and away. Since then, though, City have responded well — winning three and drawing the other of the last four meetings between the sides.
The most recent clash at the Gtech ended 2-2 last season. Three of the last four matchups have seen over 2.5 goals, and both teams have scored in four of the last six.
This would be a straightforward call at the Etihad, but at the Gtech it’s a different story. Brentford’s home form makes this fixture far more interesting and always leaves the door open for an upset.
The odds on both teams to score are too short for me, so the main bet has to be Haaland to find the net. His record speaks for itself — eight goals in six games this season and three goals in his last three appearances against Brentford.
While Brentford remain unbeaten at home, I still feel City will create enough chances to get the win, so I’ll back them to edge it with both teams scoring.
For a bet builder, Brentford’s corner count at home is usually strong, and Thiago has been in great form. He’s managed 10 shots and five on target in his six league games so far, making him a solid inclusion.
2pts – Erling Haaland to score anytime – 4/5 (Betfred)
1pt – Manchester City win and BTTS – 2/1 (Bet365)
1pt bet builder – Brentford to have 3+ corners, Thiago and Haaland both to have 1+ shots on target – 6/4 (Bet365)
Total staked - 4pts
