Brentford host reigning champions Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday hoping to kickstart their season.

Can the Bees return to form after a difficult run, or will City continue their own resurgence from recent weeks?

Odds Now's Brentford vs Manchester City betting selection

Brentford may boast the second-best home record in the Premier League, but their recent form at the Gtech Community Stadium has dropped off a cliff.

Despite heading into December unbeaten on their own patch, the Bees have now suffered three consecutive defeats on home turf following a miserable 1-0 loss to struggling Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.

Defeats to Nottingham Forest (2-0) and Arsenal (3-1) started the run, leaving Thomas Frank's side with just a single win in their last seven home and away.

Five of those ended in defeat.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have reason for optimism after enduring a torrid few months.

Pep Guardiola's men have recorded three consecutive victories in all competitions after picking up just one in their previous 13.

The reigning Premier League champions are also making moves in the winter transfer window as the Spaniard looks to breathe new life into his ageing squad for the second half of the campaign.

An 8-0 win over Salford City saw them continue their momentum on Saturday evening.

Brentford's costly defensive woes

The hosts have been breathless on the front foot this season, with only four sides having scored more goals than Brentford heading into Tuesday evening.

An inability to keep opposition teams out has been a consistent problem, though.

Brentford have averaged 1.75 goals conceded in the league so far and are yet to record a single clean sheet at home.

Visiting Manchester City have hardly been watertight at the back, mind.

While they came out on top in recent meetings with Leicester and West Ham, both of those sides were handed plenty of opportunities to threaten the City backline.

In fact, Leicester averaged 1.84 xG against the Citizens in their 2-0 defeat, while West Ham also recorded an alarming 1.53xG in an eventual 4-1 loss at the Etihad.

So for all of City's improvements in recent weeks, there's still room for concern as they prepare to face a Brentford team who have scored more goals at home than any other side this term.

Ultimately, I am going to back the away side to come out on top in an entertaining affair here.

City have refound their scoring boots, buoyed by Erling Haaland's return to form with three goals in his last two appearances.

For all of Brentford's success, they've been far too open at the back and it's hard to envisage them keeping this City side out for 90 minutes based on everything we've seen from them.

Guardiola's crop have endured their own defensive struggles though, so I'm going to back a Manchester City win with both teams scoring at a generous 13/8.
