Chelsea host Manchester United this Saturday night in an 8pm BST kick-off at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues desperate to stop the rot after three straight defeats, while the Red Devils look to respond following their first home loss in ten.
Our expert football tipster, Terry Foord, looks at the statistics and form for this match from the English top division and provides his best bets for the game.
Chelsea come into this in dreadful form. They’ve lost three in a row and four of their last five, conceding three goals in three of their last four matches. Their only recent win came against League One opposition, Port Vale, in a 7-0 victory in the FA Cup Quarter-Final, which says a lot about where they are right now.
It’s a stark contrast to Liam Rosenior’s early weeks in charge, where Chelsea topped the form table with four wins from five. Since then, they’ve completely fallen away — one win in seven, thirteen goals conceded, and now sitting among the worst-performing teams in the league over that stretch.
At Stamford Bridge, things aren’t much better. Chelsea are winless in their last four home games and look short on confidence across the pitch.
Manchester United, meanwhile, suffered a setback with a 2-1 defeat to Leeds — their first home league loss in ten. They looked off the pace early on, which wasn’t entirely surprising after a three-week break between matches, but did improve as the game went on.
Michael Carrick has generally had United playing well, but recent results — two defeats, one draw and one win in four — suggest they need to tighten things up again. The key will be avoiding the kind of drop-off Chelsea have experienced.
Between 2020 and 2022, this fixture was synonymous with draws, with five consecutive meetings ending level. Since then, it’s been more mixed — three United wins, two Chelsea wins and one draw in the last six.
There is a clear home bias, though. All of United’s wins have come at Old Trafford, while both of Chelsea’s victories were at Stamford Bridge. In fact, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last five home matches against United.
Goals tend to follow this fixture. Over 2.5 goals have landed in four of the last six, while both teams have scored in eight of the last ten meetings.
I’m siding with Manchester United here. Chelsea’s form is too poor to ignore, and while United haven’t been perfect, they’ve shown enough under Carrick to suggest they can bounce back from the Leeds defeat.
The break before that game likely contributed to a slow start, but they grew into it and were unfortunate not to take something. Away from home, Carrick has only lost once, which adds confidence.
In the bet builder, Bruno Fernandes remains central. He now has six assists in his last six matches and continues to dictate United’s attacking play. United also lead the league for shots on target, so backing them to hit five or more again fits.
Casemiro is another angle. With three goals in his last four, he’s become a real threat — particularly aerially — and is always a danger from set pieces.
2.5pts – Manchester United to win – 11/5 (Bet365)
1pts – Bruno Fernandes to assist, United 5+ shots on target & Casemiro 1+ shot on target – 8/1 (Bet365)
0.5pts – Bruno Fernandes 1+ assist and Casemiro 1+ goal – 14/1 (Bet365)
Total staked - 4pts
