Chelsea take on Real Betis in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night – a game they’ve effectively been waiting for all season.
The Blues can add silverware to the Champions League qualification they secured on Sunday, and our football tipster Adam Drury (@Adam_Drury1) is backing them to do just that in his 9/5 and 8/1 selections.
My first leg of two separate bet builders is for Chelsea to emerge from this final as champions.
I’m playing it safe with the ‘lift the trophy’ market because of a very good price we’re adding below, but this is really based on the Blues being the outstanding team in this competition – and I expect them to get the job done in 90 minutes.
Enzo Maresca’s side have finished the season with seven wins from their last eight matches, including two semi-finals legs against Djurgardens but also impressive victories against Fulham, Liverpool and at Nottingham Forest last time out.
Maresca has rarely fielded his first-choice XI without the need to consider early subs and rotation in this competition but has the freedom to do so here.
Real Betis are winless in five heading into the final, while they have only lost two of their last seven matches not played at the Villamarin Stadium.
Ultimately, the favourites should have too much for them.
I’m adding a Cucurella shot to that first leg to form a 9/5 double.
The left-back has made runs into the box a feature of his game this season and solid shot numbers have followed.
He has had 16 efforts in his last 23 Premier League matches, adding at least a second on five of those occasions, with his Conference League appearances too sporadic to take seriously – though he did have a shot the last time he played more than 45 minutes in this tournament.
A key player for Maresca, Cucurella should be penned in for 90 minutes here and that gives us a great chance.
Johnny has been carded six times this season, but the underlying numbers suggest he should be due another.
Of the Betis players likely to start this final, the US international ranks top for both tackles and fouls per game this season, with that run including 19 infringements in his last 12 games.
Chelsea have provoked a card for an opposition midfielder in their last four outings, so this looks a nice add-on to the bigger bet.
