Champions League football made a return last week and now the spotlight turns to the Europa League, where both Manchester United and Tottenham will be hoping to pickup silverware come the final in May.

Selection #1 - Porto to beat Bodo Glimt (10/11)

The reigning Norwegian champions are edging closer to a fourth Eliteserien title in five years, sitting seven points clear with seven games remaining in the country's top-flight.

Competing on the continent is always a tough ask for a club of their stature though, as seen in their quest to reach the Champions League proper earlier this summer.

Bodo suffered a 3-2 defeat to Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade over two legs, forcing them to drop down into the Europa League for the new 'league phase'.

The club last featured in this competition back in the 2022/23 season, where they were dumped out at the group stage after losing four of their six matches.

Bodo had actually gotten off to a solid start, taking four points from their first two outings, before losing four on the spin to finish bottom of the group.

And while their only win did occur on home soil, they face a stern task against a rejuvenated Porto side on Wednesday evening.

New manager Vitor Bruno is set for his first European fixture in charge since taking the reins at Estádio do Dragão in the summer.

Porto had limped to a meagre third-place finish in the Primeira Liga last season, prompting a change in the dugout as former manager Sergio Conceicao made way.

Dragoes have since made a positive start to life under Bruno, winning five of their six league outings so far this campaign.

They have not competed in the Europa League since the 2021/22 season after initially finishing third in their Champions League group.

Their recent record in the competition isn't great - Porto have just one win in their last six and haven't won any of their last three on the road - but should still have far too much for tournament minnows Glimt in this one.

New forward Samu Omorodion, who signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer, will be a particular boost. The 20-year-old has three goals in his last two matches, including a brace in their 3-0 win at Vitoria Gumaraes on Saturday.

Selection #2 - Lazio to beat Dynamo Kiev (21/20)

One man who hasn't enjoyed as positive a start in his new role is Lazio boss Marco Baroni, who has endured a mixed bag since taking over at Stadio Olimpico in the summer.

Lazio have won two, drawn one and lost two of their opening five matches in Serie A and most recently came up short against a mediocre Fiorentina side on Sunday.

I Biancocelesti's recent Europa League record doesn't make for great reading, either. They last competed in the competition during the 2022/23 season, where they were eliminated at the group stage after only winning two of their six matches.

Nevertheless, they have tasted defeat just once in their last 10 home fixtures in the competition - a run which bodes well ahead of the visit of their Ukrainian counterparts on matchday one.

Dynamo Kiev head into the match with an abysmal record in the tournament from recent times. Not only have they failed to win any of their last eight Europa League fixtures, seven of those also ended in defeat. Even worse, five of those games saw Kiev fail to score a single goal.

Manager Oleksandr Shovkovskyi may have made a positive start in his full season in charge on the domestic front, but a win in Rome looks a huge ask for last season's Ukrainian Premier League runners-up.

Selection #3 - Slavia Prague to beat Ludogorets Razgrad (6/5)

Ludogorets manager Zahari Sikarov is enjoying his first term in charge at the Huvepharma Arena and has got off to a near-perfect start in the efBet Liga.

The reigning Bulgarian champions have won seven and drawn one of their first eight in their quest to claim a remarkable 14th consecutive league title.

They find themselves in the Europa League after an 8-4 aggregate defeat to Qarabag in the Champions League qualifying rounds, but still face a stern task against the Czechian runners-up.

Slavia Prague have also gotten off to a positive start on the domestic front, picking up 22 points from a possible 24 so far.

Jindrich Trpisovsky's side were unfortunate not to qualify for the Champions League proper following a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Lille in the play-offs. Instead, they will compete in the Europa League for a second consecutive campaign.

Slavia were eliminated by AC Milan in the round-of-16 last season and endured a mixed bag of form on the road (W2, D1, L3).

Having said that, the Czech outfit should still have far too much for their Bulgarian counterparts in this one.

Trpisovsky's men are far more established across the continent, having reached the knockout stages of this competition twice this decade while also competing in the Champions League group stage on various occasions.

Meanwhile, Ludogorets have reached the knockouts just once - back in 2019/20, when they were eliminated in the round-of-32.
