Greece host Kazakhstan in a EURO 2024 Play-off semi-final on Thursday evening, with a spot in Tuesday's finals up for grabs.
The winner will face either Georgia or Luxembourg in the final. Kick-off is set for 7:45pm UK time at the OPAP Arena.
Despite finishing third in Group B of EURO 2024 Qualifying, Greece find themselves in the play-offs due to their success in the UEFA Nations League 2022/23. The tournament saw Greece finish top of Group C2 on fifteen points, six ahead of second-placed Kosovo.
They won five of their six matches while only losing one, and scored ten goals while conceding only two.
Greece were also unfortunate to share a EURO Qualifying group with two of the continent's big-hitters in France and the Netherlands. They still however managed a third-placed finish, five points behind their Dutch opponents. Greece won four of their eight matches, while recording one draw and three losses.
They also maintained a positive goal difference despite their opponents, scoring 14 and conceding eight.
Kazakhstan also find themselves in the play-offs due to their Nations League exploits. A first-placed finish in Group C3 saw four wins from six whilst scoring eight and conceding six.
They will therefore be looking to upset the hosts and move through to the play-off finals, despite their fourth-placed finish in Group H of EURO 2024 Qualifying. Kazakhstan still found themselves ahead of Northern Ireland however, and finished level on points (18) with third-placed Finland. They were just four points off league leaders Denmark and second-placed Slovenia - both of whom secured a spot in the summer's tournament.
Kazakhstan also recorded a positive goal difference, scoring 16 and conceding 12, and will hope to punch above their weight once again on Thursday evening.
Greece rightly enter as 2/5 favourites despite Kazakhstan's successes in EURO Qualifying and the Nations League. Both sides' last six matches have averaged 2.6 goals per game though, with another high-scoring affair predicted on Thursday.
