Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa: Betting tips and analysis
Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa: Betting tips and analysis

Ipswich Town have avoided defeat in their last three consecutive matches, but face a significant step-up when they welcome Aston Villa to Portman Road on Sunday afternoon.

Odds Now's Brad Walker has taken a closer look at the betting markets to see where the most value lies.

Tale of the tape

Ipswich Town

The Tractor Boys may still be searching for their first win since returning to the Premier League, but manager Kieran McKenna will be grateful to see his side pickup three valuable points in their last three outings.

The most valuable may have come against relegation rivals Southampton last weekend, where a 95th minute equaliser from Sam Morsy salvaged a third consecutive draw for McKenna's men on the south coast.

Just how crucial a role that goal might play in their survival prospects remains to be seen, but the result certainly reduces the pressure on taking something from a tricky looking contest on Sunday.

Aston Villa

Unai Emery's side enjoyed some late drama of their own on matchday five. Villa trailed 1-0 behind local rivals Wolves with 73 minutes on the clock before Ollie Watkins' timely equaliser.

The goal set the tone for the final stanza, at the end of which Emery's men ran out eventual 3-1 winners in front of a raucous home crowd. Colombian striker Jhon Duran scored once again, netting for a third Premier League game in a row, and also found the net with a late penalty against Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup during mid-week.

Many are waiting to see if Villa will drop-off after a remarkable season last term, particularly given their participation in this season's Champions League. Whether they are able to balance domestic and European commitments in the long run is a question yet to be answered, but their start to the new campaigns suggests they are here to stay.

A 2-0 loss at home to Arsenal in August remains the only time they've failed to record a victory in the league this term.

Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa: Betting tips and predictions

Unsurprisingly, the away side enter this one firm favourites at a best price of 19/20 at the time of writing. My focus is going to be on the corner line in this one, though.

Remarkably, all five of Ipswich's league matches have seen the total corner count reach double figures so far this season. Their season-opener against Liverpool saw a total of 12, before their following four also saw both sides combine for tallies of 11, 14, 11 and 12.

You can imagine my surprise, then, when I saw Betway offering 10.5+ corners at even money. Given the expansive approach of both sides, I struggle to see how the trend won't continue beyond the weekend, and there might even be some merit on chucking a few quid on 11.5+ at 31/20 (general).

And if you're feeling really adventurous, an Aston Villa win with 10/5+ corners comes in at a best price of 2.72/1 with Betfair. An absolute stick-on, in my opinion!
