The 2025/26 Premier League season's opening round of fixtures conclude on Monday night when newly-promoted Leeds host top-flight veterans Everton at Elland Road (8pm k/o).
Our football tipster Steve Day takes a look at how both teams set up ahead of this fixture and gives his tips on which bets to follow for the game.
This marks a first top-flight home game for the hosts since May 2023, having endured two frustrating seasons in the second tier before finally securing a top-flight return by lifting the Championship title last term.
Despite that impressive success, Daniel Farke's men start this season as one of the favourites to be relegated – quoted no bigger than 8/5 for the drop before even kicking a ball.
Whites fans will be feeling confident their side can outrun those odds, starting with a victory over experienced Premier League campaigners Everton.
The Toffees have looked rejuvenated under the stewardship of the wily David Moyes, who returned to his former employers in January 2025.
Everton enjoyed a positive end to last season, with three concluding wins sealing a 13th place finish that had seemed a world away for most of a campaign spent in a relegation battle.
As a result, it's no wonder the 15/8 available on the Toffees for a top-half finish in 2025-26 has proved a popular ante post selection among football punters.
It's been a shrewd summer of transfer activity for Leeds, with plenty of new faces despite their biggest individual fee paid reported to be £17million.
Farke has moved to bring in the likes of Slovenian international Jaka Bijol from Udinese, midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle, German international Anton Stach from Hoffenheim, goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon and former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, there have been several big-name arrivals for the Toffees – and possibly still more to come between now and deadline day. Moyes has moved to bring in players to strengthen several positions in a much-needed refresh of the squad.
Former Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo, Morocco international Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich, goalkeeper Mark Travers from Bournemouth, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea, former France under-21 international Thierno Barry and Jack Grealish from Manchester City on loan all join the Merseyside outfit ahead of the new campaign.
Every season that goes by appears to become harder for newly promoted teams from the Championship to avoid relegation.
This season may well buck that trend with the likes of Brentford, Wolves, and West Ham seeing their odds for relegation shorten after their first games ended in defeat this weekend.
Leeds are not expected to stay up this season, according to the bookmakers, and this feels like a fixture where we might see why that assessment has been made.
Everton look an excellent price for the win at 12/5. While it could well be a hostile atmosphere at Elland Road as Premier League football returns, this is an away team packed with experience and boasting one of the most hardened top-flight brains in Moyes.
In terms of the player markets, the name that stands out is Everton midfielder Iliman Ndiaye.
The Senegalese international hit the target with 65% of his shots last seaso and he scored 11 goals in all competitions for the Toffees last year, including scoring the last goals at Goodison Park. He is available at EVS here to register a shot on target and 9/2 to score anytime.
Those hunting for bigger-priced wagers may consider Jack Grealish to mark his Toffees debut with over 0.5 assists (6/1), Everton to win and BTTS at 6/1 – or, for the superstitious types, Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score anytime against his old club at 16/5.
