Odds Now's football tipster Terry Foord turns his attentions to a crucial World Cup qualifier for Wales on Saturday, as they hunt a win over Liechtenstein which would put them one victory away from a play-off place.
Terry has 8/11 and 15/4 betting tips for the contest.
It's all eyes on Group J here, where Wales face a must-win away trip to Liechtenstein at the Rheinpark Stadion on Saturday (5pm kick-off).
This is the penultimate fixture of the group stage and an opportunity for Wales to build momentum ahead of their decisive showdown with second-placed North Macedonia.
Liechtenstein have been the clear whipping boys of Group J, losing all six qualifying matches so far. They’ve failed to score a single goal and have conceded a whopping twenty-three. One of those defeats was indeed a routine 3–0 loss to Wales in June at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Konrad Funfstuck’s side are ranked 206th in the world, and their performances reflect that. They haven’t won a competitive match in years, and defeats to teams such as San Marino underline how far off the pace they are at this level. Unfortunately, things can hardly get worse – but improvement still feels a long way off.
Wales remain in the hunt for automatic qualification, though Belgium’s remaining fixtures mean the play-offs look more realistic. Still, Craig Bellamy’s men will want to finish the group strongly, and victory here is non-negotiable before facing North Macedonia in what could prove to be a straight shootout for second spot.
The visitors are without several key players: Ben Davies, Kieffer Moore, captain Aaron Ramsey, Ben Cabango and Wes Burns all miss out. Even so, Wales should expect to get through this without much difficulty before turning full focus to North Macedonia.
Wales eased to a 3–0 win over Liechtenstein in June, and the scoreline could –and probably should – have been far heavier in their favour.
Wales created chance after chance, while Liechtenstein failed to register a single shot on target.
These two nations have met four times in total, with Wales winning all four to nil. Although odds of that are happening again are priced accordingly.
The absence of Kieffer Moore removes the obvious goalscorer angle, but the result itself shouldn’t really be in doubt. The only question is how comfortably Wales can get the job done.
Given Liechtenstein’s complete lack of attacking threat and Wales’ dominance in the reverse meeting, the defensive angles and a controlled Welsh win look the most appealing.
I’m taking a combination of two bet builders; both built around Wales effectively winning to nil and Liechtenstein struggling to register shots on target or win corners.
I’m also a fan of Sorba Thomas, and this feels like the type of game where he can really shine on Saturday.
2.75pt bet builder – BTTS - No, over 2.5 goals, and Liechtenstein under 3.5 corners 8/11 (Bet365)
1pt bet builder – Liechtenstein under 1.5 shots on target, under 1.5 corners & Sorba Thomas to assist – 15/4 (Bet365)
Total staked - 3.75pts
