It's a new year but the same old relentless English Premier League schedule, with Liverpool and Leeds offering up a New Year's Day showdown for football fans to enjoy.
Odds Now tipster Terry Foord, who has been in fine form recently, casts his eye over the Anfield clash and offers up his best betting angles.
Approaching the halfway point of the season (after this match), Liverpool currently sit fourth in the table and have shown a recent uptick in form.
It’s easy to forget that the reigning champions burst out of the blocks with five wins from their opening five fixtures. However, just one win from the following five told a different story.
Arne Slot’s men have now won four in a row across all competitions and are unbeaten in seven. Only Manchester United are averaging more shots per game than Liverpool, while no team boasts a higher average possession percentage.
At Anfield, the Reds rank sixth in the home form table, with six wins and two defeats so far.
Leeds continued their recent solid form with a hard-fought draw away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last weekend. That result made it four matches in a row without defeat, having also shared the points with Brentford and recorded an impressive 4–1 win over Crystal Palace.
The Whites also played out a thrilling 3–3 draw with Liverpool at Elland Road earlier this season but now face the much tougher task of heading to Anfield.
Daniel Farke will be pleased with how things are shaping up overall. Leeds currently sit sixteenth in the table but are picking up points regularly, unlike sides such as West Ham or Nottingham Forest. They’re now seven points clear of eighteenth-placed West Ham and boast a far superior goal difference.
As mentioned above, these two sides served up a classic earlier in the season, drawing 3–3 at Elland Road. Leeds also beat Liverpool 2–1 in the last meeting at Anfield back in 2022.
Overall, though, Liverpool have dominated this fixture over the years, winning ten of the previous fifteen meetings.
Goals have been a consistent feature. Over 2.5 goals has landed in each of the last five encounters, while both teams have scored in three of the last five — all of which were the most recent meetings.
If this match were at Elland Road, I’d give Leeds a genuine chance of taking something – especially considering how they came back from 2–0 down in the recent 3–3 draw.
At Anfield, however, Liverpool’s current momentum should tell.
I’ll take Leeds to score, but Liverpool to take all three points.
I’ll build on that angle with a bet builder that includes Hugo Ekitike to score or assist. He’s Liverpool’s top scorer this season and has recorded three goals and one assist across his last three matches.
Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has hit nine shots on target in his last six games, and I’ll back him to register at least one more here.
2pts – Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 2/1 (Bet365)
1pt – Both teams to score, Over 2.5 goals, Ekitike to score/assist & Calvert-Lewin 1+ shot on target – 16/5 (Bet365)
Total Staked: 3pts
