Liverpool vs Sheffield United: Betting Odds & Prediction
Liverpool vs Sheffield United: Betting Odds & Prediction

Liverpool look to maintain their lead at the summit of the Premier League when they host relegation-bound Sheffield United on Thursday.

Kick-off is set for 7:30pm UK time at Anfield.

Recent Form

Liverpool

The home side come into the clash following a hard fought win over Brighton on Sunday, which left them two points clear at the top of the Premier League. The Reds have won four out of their last five in the Premier League and have only lost two games all season (W20 D7 L2).

Liverpool also boast the strongest home record in the league, with them taking 39 points from their 15 outings so far. Their home form has also seen them register an average expected goal (xG) tally of 2.59.

Of their 67 goals this season, 40 have been at Anfield, where they've conceded just 13 heading into the clash on Thursday. Only one match at Anfield has seen Liverpool fail to score, though Jurgen Klopp's men have kept clean sheets in only 33% of matches on home turf so far.

Sheffield United

Chris Wilder's side have registered just three victories throughout the campaign, with their dismal season almost certain to end in a return to the Championship. Only one of those wins have been on the road (3-1 versus Luton Town in February), and Sheffield United head to Anfield as the lowest scorers in the division, with just 27 goals in 29 matches. Only 12 of those have been scored on away soil.

Their xG of 0.82 is also the lowest in the Premier League, with the Blades failing to score in 12 league fixtures already this term.

Prediction

Liverpool, to nobody's surprise, enter as overwhelming favourites heading into the fixture. There is no value in backing the home side on the moneyline, but Liverpool have averaged 2.67 goals in their matches at Anfield so far. Coupled with a torrid Sheffield United defence that has shipped 2.29 on average in away fixtures, the Reds will be confident of boosting their goal difference as we enter the final stretch of the title race.

Klopp's men have also averaged eleven home corners this season while Sheffield United have averaged 11.64 on the road, suggesting plenty of set-piece action could lie in wait on Thursday evening.

OddsNow's Picks: Over 3.5 home goals scored (Evens @ 888Sport); Over 11.5 corners (6/5 @ Betfair)
