Lyon vs AS Monaco: Betting Odds & Prediction

Second-placed AS Monaco travel to mid-table Lyon as the away side look to cement their place in the Champions League next season.

Lyon secured a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Kick-off is set for 6pm on Sunday evening.

Recent Form

Lyon

The hosts have already suffered one more loss than they did across the entirety of last season in Ligue 1. Sitting in ninth, Lyon are on course to record their lowest league position since 1995/96.

Their home record remains the division's eleventh-best, averaging 1.27 points across 15 outings at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais compared to 1.47 on the road. Lyon have won three of their last five on home turf though, including a thrilling 4-3 victory over Brest earlier this month. Pierre Sage's side have since suffered a 4-1 loss at PSG, however.

A solid return of 1.33 goals scored has been marred by a worrying 1.73 shipped in front of their home fans. While they've failed to score in just three matches at home, Lyon have also managed five clean sheets.

Both teams have found the net in eight (53%) of their home encounters so far.

AS Monaco

Adi Hütter's men are set for a third finish among the Champions League places in four years. After a disappointing campaign last year which saw them finish in sixth, Monaco are now five points clear of third-placed Brest heading into the match on Sunday.

Their away record is superb this campaign, with only newly-crowned champions PSG bettering the 2.07 points Monaco have averaged on the road. They've also recorded five away wins on the bounce as they prepare to travel to Lyon.

Hütter's side have seen plenty of goalscoring action at both ends of the pitch on their travels. Again, only PSG have scored more than Monaco's 56, with 34 of those coming on the road (averaging 2.27 per game).

Their expansive approach has left them more open at the back though, with Monaco conceding an alarming 1.67 goals in away fixtures so far. Only three of these have ended in a clean sheet.

Prediction

Remarkably, Lyon enter the match favourites despite a mediocre record on home turf. Monaco have been superb on their travels and are the sensible pick on the moneyline, particularly given their attacking output and Lyon's tendency to concede.
