Mainz vs Borussia Dortmund: Betting Odds & Prediction

Relegation-threatened Mainz host a buoyant Borussia Dortmund side on Saturday evening as the Bundesliga approaches its climax.

Both sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in December. Kick-off is set for 5:30pm UK time at the MEWA Arena.

The hosts head into the fixture unbeaten in their last seven Bundesliga outings. The run has significantly strengthened their survival hopes, but Bo Henriksen's side still occupy the relegation play-off place with two matches remaining. Sitting one point behind Union Berlin in 15th, a win could see them overtake the side from the capital, depending on their result at Cologne.

Not only are they unbeaten in seven home outings, Mainz have also found the net nine times in their last three. And with just four goals conceded in their last seven home and away, the home side look to have found form at the perfect time as they look to maintain their status in the German top-flight for next year. Two of their last four home fixtures have also ended in a clean sheet.

Borussia Dortmund

Having progressed to their first Champions League final in eleven years, Edin Terzic's side will be confident of securing a fourth consecutive win in all competitions. Their recent form in the Bundesliga has been riddled with inconsistency, though, and Dortmund have secured only two wins in their last five.

A damaging 4-1 loss at RB Leipzig last time out was only their second defeat on the road though, and only champions Bayer Leverkusen boast a better away record in the division. Prior to the match at the Red Bull Arena, Dortmund had won their last four on their travels, including a 2-0 victory at rivals Bayern Munich.

Only three other sides have bettered the 31 goals Terzic's men have netted in away fixtures, and Dortmund have failed to score just once away from home. They have also conceded the second-lowest amount of goals in away matches.

However, Dortmund have failed to keep a clean sheet since the win in Munich at the end of March, and have shipped a combined six goals in their last three Bundesliga outings.

Prediction

With Champions League qualification secured, Dortmund's attention will now surely turn to the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium later this month. Not only do Mainz have more to play for in their remaining Bundesliga matches, but the hosts are also in better form in league matches.
