Monday night football delivers a Premier League game as Manchester United host Leeds at Old Trafford in an 8pm BST kick-off, with both sides having plenty on the line at opposite ends of the table.
Our expert football tipster, Terry Foord, looks at the stats and form for this game from the top flight of English football and offers his best bets for the game.
Manchester United sit third, six points behind Manchester City, having played a game more. The focus now is securing that Champions League spot — something that looked unlikely earlier in the season.
Before December, United were tenth, but since Michael Carrick took charge, their form has been exceptional. Seven wins in ten, just one defeat, and comfortably the best form in the league over that period. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to argue against him getting the job full-time.
Leeds arrive off the back of a dramatic FA Cup quarter-final win over West Ham on penalties. However, the performance itself was far from convincing. They led 2-0, only to be pegged back late, with West Ham also having three goals disallowed. Leeds eventually got through thanks to their goalkeeper saving two penalties.
That game highlighted their issues. Leeds remain just four points above West Ham and could be even closer to danger by the time this kicks off. Away form is a major concern — just one win all season and only 15 goals scored in 15 away matches. Only Wolves have scored fewer.
Manchester United has dominated this fixture in recent years. The Red Devils are unbeaten in the last ten meetings, winning six and drawing four.
Since 2020, in seven Premier League meetings, United have scored 20 goals and conceded just eight. Goals have been a feature, with over 2.5 landing in four of the last six and both teams scoring in four of the last five.
Interestingly, Leeds have scored in each of their last six visits to Old Trafford across all competitions. The Whites also held United to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road back in January.
Everything points towards a Manchester United win here. Their form under Carrick has been outstanding, while Leeds continue to struggle, particularly away from home.
Rather than taking a short outright price, United to win and score 2+ goals offers better value. Given Leeds’ defensive issues on the road, that looks very achievable.
In the bet builder, Bruno Fernandes stands out. He has four assists in his last three matches and continues to be the creative hub. Pairing that with United's dominance in corners and shots on target fits the expected game state, with the home side likely to control possession throughout.
3pts – Manchester United to win & score 2+ goals – 5/6 (Bet365)
1pts – Manchester United to win, Bruno Fernandes to assist, United 4+ corners & United 5+ shots on target – 5/1 (Bet365)
Total staked - 4pts
