Only 90 minutes separate Newcastle from a Carabao Cup final, but can the Magpies get over the line against an in-form Arsenal?

Newcastle have been slightly underwhelming in home fixtures this season and head into this game having lost their last two on home turf.

Eddie Howe's men were battered 4-1 by his former side Bournemouth last month and also deservingly came up short against Fulham in a 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Nevertheless, the Magpies head into the second leg with a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in the capital four weeks ago.

The result means Newcastle have now beaten Arsenal on two occasions this season without conceding a goal following a 1-0 home win over the Gunners at the start of November.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta's men have not tasted defeat in normal time since the loss to Newcastle a month ago and have won their last four on the bounce in all competitions.

Arsenal's recent results against Newcastle have hardly convinced mind, given they've won only two of their last seven meetings and have lost three of their last four at St James' Park.

Expect Alexander Isak to exploit Arsenal's vulnerability on the road

The Fulham game means Newcastle have scored in 87% of home league matches, even if four have ended in defeat.

Only five sides have scored more than Howe's side in the league, numbers which have been heavily contributed to by talismanic striker Alexander Isak.

Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland are the only players to have scored more than the Swedish international in the English top-flight so far.

Isak also netted the opener in the first leg, adding to the winner he scored in this fixture at the start of November.

His prior success against the Gunners will only whet the appetite further ahead of kick-off on Wednesday, where he faces-off against an Arsenal defence who tend to concede more chances away from home.

Despite averaging only 0.89 xGA on home turf, Arteta's men have averaged 1.3 on their travels, where they only have three league clean sheets to their name.

Newcastle also tend to create their fair share of chances at St James Park, having averaged 1.6 xG in front of their own fans.

Yet, Isak still peculiarly enters at over 2/1 to register over 1.5 shots on target in the side's third meeting of the campaign.

Only Chris Wood (33%) boasts a better conversion rate than Isak's 25.4% (Statmuse).

The bet also came in for the first leg and could prove an astute pick this time around against an Arsenal side who will need to take more chances on the front foot if they want to overturn the deficit.

A more aggressive approach from the visitors will only leave more spaces at the back for the Magpies, leaving Isak well-poised to be at the centre of attention once again.
