How did Crystal Palace perform in 2023-24?

Palace found themselves in 15th place when Glasner was announced as their new manager five months ago. The Eagles were in real danger of being dragged into a relegation dog-fight following a miserable first half of the season under Roy Hodgson.

However, the Eagles quickly found their feet under the Austrian and eventually ended the season in 10th - their best Premier League return since 2014/15. They also went unbeaten in their final seven league outings, which included a historic 1-0 away win against Liverpool before thumping Manchester United 4-0 in front of a rampant Selhurst Park crowd in May.

Michael Olise's subsequent departure to Bayern Munich will be a loss, but the blow will have been softened by the form of Jean-Philippe Mateta. The French forward ended the campaign with a whopping 19 goals to his name in all competitions.

Ghana's Jordan Ayew also caught the eye in creative columns - no Palace player bettered his eight assists last term.

What to expect from Crystal Palace in 2024-25

Expectations are high at Selhurst Park after a glorious run of form since Oliver Glasner's appointment as manager in February. The Austrian calmed any lingering nerves of a relegation dog-fight upon his arrival before steering the club to their second top-half Premier League finish.

The arrival of former Watford winger Ismaila Sarr will hopefully cushion the blow of winger Michael Olise's departure to Bayern Munich. The Palace faithful will also be praying to retain the services of attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze for at least another season, despite ongoing interest from Tottenham and Arsenal.

Forward Jean-Philippe Mateta caught the headlines with 13 goals since Glasner's appointment and has hit the ground running for France at the Olympics, guaranteeing his nation a first medal in the competition for 40 years with a brace in the semi-finals. The Eagles will be relying on him maintaining his attacking output to steer them forward this season, particularly given Olise's absence.

Maintaining their form in the final months of last season will be no easy task, having won six of their final seven games which included wins over Liverpool and Manchester United.

Optimism is understandably high in South London though, and there's no reason Glasner can't continue to enamour himself to the Eagles faithful with another impressive league finish this term.
