Despite being tipped for relegation at the offset, Wolves comfortably secured their place in the Premier League for the 2024/25 season. O'Neil's men had to deal with numerous questionable VAR decisions but still found themselves just three points away from a top-half finish.

Wolves endured a difficult end to the campaign though, winning just one of their final ten league matches. Nevertheless, the form of forwards Hwang Hee-Chan and Matheus Cunha were a positive; the pair mustered 27 goals between them in all competitions. Pedro Neto and Pedro Sarabia were also tied with the most assists at the club (10).

What to expect from Wolves in 2024-25

VAR controversies aside, Gary O'Neil exceeded expectations and then some in his first season in charge. Attention now shifts to see if Wolves can build on last season's 14th-placed finish and push for a place in the top half.

O'Neil also has the loss of several key figures to contend with. Losing former captain Max Kilman to West Ham was a huge blow, before Pedro Neto's departure to Chelsea rubbed further salt in the wounds. Wolves did claim combined fees of £94 million for the pair, with attention now turning to potential replacements.

Their fortunes largely depend on what they do between now and the end of the transfer window. While a relegation dog-fight looks unlikely, more quality will be needed if they are to build on the positive signs from last season, particularly what we saw before Christmas.
