Rennes vs Brest: Betting Odds & Prediction
Rennes vs Brest: Betting Odds & Prediction

Brest continue their pursuit of Champions League football when they travel to Rennes on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides played out a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Kick-off is set for 4:05pm UK time at Roazhon Park.

Recent Form

Rennes

The hosts returned to winning ways with a 2-0 away win at Nantes last weekend after three consecutive defeats in Ligue 1. While two of their last five home outings have ended in defeat, Rennes still boast the eighth-best home record in the division. They've failed to score in just one of their home fixtures so far (a 1-0 loss to Lyon in November).

Julien Stéphan's side currently rank as the joint-fourth highest-scoring side in Ligue 1 with 44 goals. 29 of these have been scored on home soil at an impressive average of 1.93 goals per home fixture. Nine of these matches have seen Rennes score at least two goals.

Though their 1.33 goals conceded isn't terrible, Rennes have struggled shutting opposition out at Roazhon Park. Only two of their home matches have ended with a Rennes clean sheet, making for ominous reading as they prepare to host a side who have also bagged 44 goals this term.

Brest

The visitors have hardly been convincing lately, too. Not only have Brest secured just two wins in their last six, they've also conceded eight goals in their last three matches. Only one of these ended in victory - a 4-3 home win over Metz at the start of the month.

Nevertheless, they head to Rennes boasting the third-best away record in Ligue 1 after averaging 1.6 points across their 15 outings on the road. While two of their last five away matches have ended in defeat, Brest have still managed to score eight goals in that period.

Scoring and conceding goals have been more problematic in their away games so far; Eric Roy's side have scored 20 on the road compared to 24 at home. They've also conceded 16 goals in away fixtures compared to the 13 they've shipped at Stade Francis Le Blé.

Brest do tend to create more opportunities on their travels though, averaging an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.48, which will no doubt concern the home side who have made habit of conceding in front of their home fans.

Prediction

Neither side come into the match in great form, making it difficult to predict a winner on the moneyline. Rennes do boast a healthy scoring record in home fixtures though, and OddsNow back the home side to continue to succeed in front of goal this weekend.

OddsNow's Pick: Rennes to score over 1.5+ goals (13/10 @ StarSports)
