Republic of Ireland vs Switzerland: Betting Odds & Prediction
Republic of Ireland vs Switzerland: Betting Odds & Prediction

The Republic of Ireland host Switzerland on Tuesday night in Dublin as the visitors continue to prepare for this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

The hosts failed to qualify for EURO 2024 after a disappointing campaign, whereas Switzerland earned automatic qualification out of Group I. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:45pm UK time at the Aviva Stadium.

The hosts played out an uneventful 0-0 draw against Belgium on Saturday night. The result follows a dismal EURO 2024 qualifying campaign which led to former manager Stephen Kenny's departure in November.

Ireland only earned six points in Group B, which included the likes of France and the Netherlands, with their only two wins coming against Gibraltar. Scoring nine goals and conceding ten across eight matches did not make for good reading, especially as seven of their nine goals came against rock bottom Gibraltar, with the side only adding a further two across six matches.

The clean sheet against a dangerous Belgium side no doubt marks a step in the right direction, and interim head coach John O’Shea will hope for goals to start flowing through his side as they look to gain momentum moving forward.

Switzerland

The visitors, meanwhile, enjoyed their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign which led to a second-placed finish in Group I, earning them automatic qualification to the summer's tournament.

Switzerland earned 17 points across ten matches in their qualifiers. However, the Swiss only managed to pick up two points in their final three matches, with draws coming against Kosovo and Belarus and a defeat away to table-toppers, Romania. They most recently played out another 0-0 draw in a friendly against Denmark.

Since taking over in 2021, manager Murat Yakin has continued Switzerland’s impressive run of qualification for major tournaments. Yakin only has a 43.3% win percentage though, which is lower than that of his predecessorVladimir Petkovic, and the Swiss will be looking to secure their first win in five matches on Tuesday.

Prediction

Both sides come into the match lacking goals, hinting at a low-scoring affair in Dublin.

Nevertheless, the away side remain the sensible pick given their form in qualifying, even with their recent results in mind. Ireland remain a side in turmoil, despite the result against Belgium, and we expect their woes to be compounded again on Tuesday.

OddsNow's Picks: Switzerland to win (13/10 @ betway); Under 2 goals scored (6/5 @ vbet)
