Tottenham vs Bournemouth analysis - Spurs' woes continue on all fronts

Spurs looked to have turned a corner when they recorded back-to-back wins over Tottenham and Ipswich last month. However, Ange Postecoglou's men have been brought straight back down to earth by consecutive 1-0 defeats to Manchester City and then AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening.

Postecoglou's job has been hanging by a thread for a bulk of the campaign but failure to overturn the latter defeat in the second leg next week may well be the straw which breaks the camel's back.

After being eliminated from both domestic cups, the north Londoners are staring down the barrel of another trophyless season. They also find themselves 13th in the Premier League, a farcry from the heights many predicted them to be soaring at back in August.

Some solace may be found in the fact Bournemouth have also hit a bit of a stumbling block in recent weeks. Andoni Iraola's men have been superb for the majority of the campaign, but have now suffered consecutive losses to Wolves and Brighton in their last two league outings.

Bournemouth have since beaten Wolves on penalties in the FA Cup though and still find themselves in seventh, on course for a spot in Europe next term.

Despite recent results, Spurs have seen some reasons for optimism through the return of several key players through injury. Still, results haven't improved and the pressure remains on boss Postecoglou, particularly after Thursday's showing in the Netherlands.

Spurs registered a measly one shot on target in a game where they registered just 0.48 expected goals across the 90 minutes. They also face a Bournemouth side which remains one of the most impressive this season, even with their recent slump, and which boasts the fifth-best away record in the league.

Their loss at Brighton at the end of February was their first in seven on the road, where they've averaged a respectable 1.62 points per game so far.

All in all, getting on side with the away win makes sense. That currently sits just above 6/4 at the time of writing, though also backing both teams to score boosts that price to a solid 13/5 with various sportsbooks.

For all of Bournemouth's success in away fixtures, both teams have scored in 79% of these matches. Spurs have also scored in all but two of their home encounters in the league.
