West Ham vs Luton Town: Betting Odds & Prediction
West Ham vs Luton Town: Betting Odds & Prediction

Mid-table West Ham host relegation-threatened Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts suffered a damaging 5-0 away loss at Chelsea last week. Meanwhile, Luton drew 1-1 with Everton last time out. Kick-off is set for 3pm UK time at the London Stadium.

Recent Form

West Ham

Manager David Moyes confirmed he would leave the club at the end of the season after a difficult run since the turn of the year. The Hammers are winless in their last six in all competitions, and have recorded just three league victories in 2024. They now meander in ninth and are set to miss out on European football next season for the first time in three seasons.

West Ham's home form has hardly convinced this term, with only seven sides faring worse in home fixtures. Averaging 1.44 points across 18 outings, Moyes' men have failed to win any of their last five on home turf. Goals haven't been hard to come by due to the exploits of Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, who have bagged 23 of their 56 league goals so far.

Their main problem has been at the other end of the pitch; the 70 goals conceded is by far the highest in the top-half, and West Ham have averaged 1.5 shipped per home fixture. They've managed just five clean sheets all season, though four of these have came at the London Stadium.

Luton Town

The visitors are on a poor run of form themselves. Failing to win any of their last four in the league, Luton have also conceded 13 goals during that period while scoring only four in return. The run typifies their entire season, with Rob Edwards' side managing just two clean sheets throughout the campaign. Both of these have also came at home.

Their away form has been abysmal, with only Sheffield United having a worse record in away fixtures. Averaging just 0.56 points across 18 away outings, Luton have lost five on the bounce on the road. 45 of the 78 goals conceded have also came on their travels.

Edwards' men have had little trouble in finding the net, failing to score in only five matches home and away, and they've averaged 1.28 goals scored in away games. However, their leaky defence has left their attacking line with too much to do, and will need to be tighter if they are to keep out the West Ham attack led by Bowen and co.

Prediction

Neither side have excelled defensively, suggesting plenty of goals could be in store for this one. West Ham no doubt have added quality going forward, though, and should be backed to return to winning ways here. Nevertheless, Luton do tend to find the net and so both teams getting on the scoresheet appears likely.
