We turn our attention to FA Cup action this weekend as Championship club Wrexham welcome Premier League giants Chelsea to the Racecourse Ground in North East Wales.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord takes an analytical look at the massive game this weekend in the FA Cup and offers up his best bets. Will he back Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac's side to pull off a giant-killing in front of the whole world?
It has been quite the journey for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since purchasing Wrexham back in 2021. Since then, the club has transformed both on and off the pitch, securing three promotions while gradually improving infrastructure around the ground. Step by step, Wrexham are establishing themselves higher up the English football pyramid.
History was made in 2025 when Wrexham returned to the second tier for the first time in 43 years, becoming the first club ever to achieve three successive promotions in the English Football League. They currently sit sixth in the table and are well placed to challenge for a play-off position as they chase a remarkable rise to the top tier.
Their FA Cup run has already produced memorable moments. Wrexham have beaten Nottingham Forest and Ipswich to reach this stage, earning themselves a glamour tie against Chelsea. For manager Phil Parkinson and his squad, hosting a Premier League side at the Racecourse Ground is the kind of occasion the FA Cup is famous for.
Chelsea entered the competition in the fourth round and made light work of Hull with a comfortable 4-0 victory. They also returned to form in midweek with an impressive 4-1 win away at Aston Villa, a result that will have pleased manager Liam Rosenior, given Villa’s strong league position.
Chelsea now sits just three points outside the Champions League places and will be keen to maintain momentum. Rosenior would have been frustrated by recent dropped points against struggling sides, such as a 2-2 draw with Leeds and a 1-1 draw with Burnley, but the win at Villa showed what this team is capable of when it clicks.
The two sides have rarely crossed paths competitively. Their last meeting came all the way back in 1982 when Wrexham defeated Chelsea in the old Second Division.
They have met three times in FA Cup history, with Chelsea winning once and the other two matches ending in draws. Naturally, results from that era hold little relevance for modern squads.
More recently, the clubs met in a friendly during 2024 that finished 2-2. Chelsea rotated heavily that day, but the result still offers encouragement that Wrexham could be competitive in a one-off cup tie.
The atmosphere in North Wales should be electric and Wrexham will treat this as a genuine test of how far they have come. With the crowd behind them, it would not be surprising to see them cause Chelsea problems and find the back of the net.
Chelsea should still have the quality to come through the tie, so the main selection is Chelsea to win with both teams scoring.
For those looking for a bigger price, a 2-1 Chelsea victory stands out as a realistic correct score. This feels like the sort of match where Wrexham could strike first before Chelsea’s quality shows as the game progresses.
2pts – Chelsea to win and both teams to score – 7/4 (Bet365)
0.5pts – Correct score: Wrexham 1-2 Chelsea – 15/2 (Bet365)
0.5pts – HT/FT: Wrexham/Chelsea – 20/1 (William Hill)
Total staked - 3pts
