The Grand Slam of Darts 2025 moves into the knockout rounds this evening with 16 players having progressed through eight intriguing groups over the last four days.
Darts tipster Matt Hill offers up three wagers from across Wednesday night's first four knockout games.
It's always refreshing to see some different names in the latter stages of a PDC major and what an opportunity awaits for both Luke Woodhouse and Ricky Evans here.
As well as the prestige of making a major quarter-final, there's the small matter of an extra £12,250 on the line for the winner – important both in the ranking ladder and the back pocket.
The question in such match-ups is usually who will handle the occasion better. However, Woodhouse and Evans – despite having just four major quarter-final appearances between them – are not exactly wet behind the ears, with 21 years of professional darts under their belts combined.
Given both are in great form, too, I really do expect both players to turn up and put on a really engrossing encounter to open the show. That should mean plenty of opportunity for maximums, with both men more than capable around the treble 20 bed.
If we forecast both players to reach seven legs in this race to 10, then I make that ample time for both to plunder in at least four 180s. That trio of selections combine for a very solid 6/4 Bet Builder with Bet365.
Luke Humphries breezed through what looked a potentially troubling Group A, extending his bid to cling onto the world No1 spot in the PDC rankings.
Though Cool Hand will almost inevitably give that top spot up to the mercurial Luke Littler in the coming weeks, there's no doubting the 2024 World Champion is playing some sublime stuff at exactly the right time of year.
A whitewash win over Alex Spellman, a nine-darter to beat Michael Smith and then an effortless 103 average to sink Nathan Aspinall. How do you pick fault in that?
The market is predictably leaning towards a heavy Humphries victory here against young Jurjen van der Velde – but the total legs line may just be underestimating the Dutch prospect a tad.
Van der Velde was unfancied to come through a group containing Chris Dobey, Damon Heta and Martin Lukeman but after an opening-day defeat to Hollywood, he confounded expectations with back-to-back wins over Lukeman and Heta, sealing second spot.
The World Youth Championship runner-up has a gloriously smooth action which can hold up under pressure and we've seen enough from his tussles with the likes of Heta and Gian van Veen to suggest he can live with the PDC's best – particularly when so unfancied.
You'd be amazed if Humphries doesn't progress but I think even money about Van der Velde to get five legs here is a price worth taking. He's no mug and may just surprise a few by pushing Cool Hand close.
1pt - Luke Woodhouse vs Ricky Evans over 16.5 legs and over 3.5 180s each - 6/4 (Bet365)
1pt - Luke Humphries vs Jurjen van der Velde over 14.5 legs - EVS (various)
1pt double - 3.77/1 (Bet365)
Total staked - 3pts
