The Premier League darts heads to Glasgow for week three of its 2026 edition on Thursday night, with the field reduced to seven after Michael van Gerwen was forced to withdraw due to illness.
Our arrows expert Matt Hill takes a quick look at how the Green Machine's absence will change things and offers up a couple of wagers for the evening's action.
Stephen Bunting v Gian van Veen
Luke Humphries v Josh Rock
Luke Littler vs BYE (Michael van Gerwen withdrew due to illness)
Jonny Clayton v Gerwyn Price
Bunting/ Van Veen vs Rock/ Humphries
Littler vs Clayton/ Price
Bunting/ Van Veen/ Rock/ Humphries vs Littler/ Clayton/ Price
Luke Littler - 19/20 (Sporting index)
Luke Humphries - 7/2 (Sporting Index)
Gian van Veen - 13/2 (Bet365)
Gerwyn Price - 7/1 (various)
Josh Rock 16/1 (Sporting Index)
Jonny Clayton - 20/1 (Bet365)
Stephen Bunting - 28/1 (Bet365)
Michael van Gerwen's withdrawal due to illness has predictably shaken the betting market up ahead of this evening, with many books opting to withdraw their each-way terms – and everyone has now made Luke Littler an odds-on chance from an initial 7/4.
So, while the value has probably gone from the Nuke's price, the best method of attack may now be to focus on the other side of the draw.
It's hard to get too enthusiastic about Stephen Bunting's prospects at the moment, even if he did deliver a much-improved showing on the floor this week.
Including last year's wooden spoon effort on debut, the Bullet has now suffered 14 quarter-final defeats across 18 Premier League nights – so a real leap of faith is required to support him financially in this sphere, even if the price does tempt.
He takes on Gian van Veen in his opener here, who is unappealing not from a performance perspective but more a price perspective.
Bookmakers were quick to install the Giant as a clear third-favourite in all outright markets this term behind the two Lukes after his run to the World Championship final. But while I do have huge respect for Van Veen's talent, challenging on Premier League debut always felt a big ask to me.
I think he'll be in the top four shake-up come the closing weeks but as for backing him to win nights at his current quotes, I'd suggest the value lies elsewhere.
So, to play it safe with Humphries or take a risk on Josh Rock? Well, you can't argue with Humphries being put in as a strong favourite – but I'd lean towards the price discrepancy being a little too big here.
Rock has had a torrid first two weeks in the Premier League but make no mistake, he merits his inclusion and Glasgow may just be the night we see the Northern Irishman come to life.
As a big Rangers fan, the crowd are bound to lend him a decent amount of support. And while he did look some way from his best in Antwerp last week, there may well be an excuse for that – Rock citing that he struggled to find any grip on the stage, which he blamed on some questionable soap in the venue's toilets.
It sounds a borderline farcical excuse but it may well have credence. Grip is a crucial aspect and Rock is more than experienced enough on the big stage to know when something is amiss. Furthermore, if he mentally believes he had a legitimate reason for that underperformance, it shouldn't harm his confidence too much.
Humphries has been in rude health recently and looked other-wordly on the floor at times this week. But having failed to reach a final yet in this Premier League cycle, he may just approach this contest with a tad more tension than usual.
Add in the best of 11 leg format – devilish at the best of times – and I think the prices dictate taking an each-way chance on Rock at 16/1.
0.5pt EW - Josh Rock to win Night 3 - 16/1 (Sporting Index)
