World Grand Prix darts betting tips – Tuesday October 7th 2025

The 2025 World Grand Prix delivered several shocks on opening night – and our darts tipster Matt Hill is expecting more of the same across Tuesday's eight contests.

Matt gives us three betting picks from the final round one clashes.

2025 World Grand Prix betting tips

Ryan Searle vs Gerwyn Price over 4.5 180s - 11/10 (Paddy Power)

Gerwyn Price is one of the favourites for glory this week in Leicester but he's been handed a tough opening-round assignment against Ryan Searle, who finally rediscovered some form across last week's Pro Tour triple-header.

Heavy Metal picked up the Players Championship 28 title on Tuesday and then enjoyed a run to the final four two days later at Players Championship 30 – results that should offer a much-needed confidence boost heading into the business end of what has been a largely frustrating 2025 for the Devon-born arrowsmith.

In fairness, Price has a sublime recent head-to-head record against Searle, winning all of their last six meetings. But one thing their clashes always seem to produce is plenty of maximums.

Their last three non-floor meetings have seen 22 180s in just 21 legs – a freakishly high return which makes tonight's 180s line particularly attractive given there's every chance this one goes the full three sets.

It's easy to assume the double-start format heavily impacts maximum scoring, but perhaps not as much as you'd think. Last year, 19 of the 32 participants hit three or more 180s in their round one clash.

Last night was quite quiet on the maxi front but the seven produced by Stephen Bunting and Niko Springer shows over 4.5 is an entirely plausible total when the two players are a good fit for each other stylistically – just as they appear to be here.

Gian van Veen to beat Luke Littler - 7/4 (various)

The clash of the round sees reigning world champion Luke Littler search for his first ever World Grand Prix win against a fellow youngster who has caused him no end of problems in Gian van Veen.

If it wasn't for Littler's unprecedented meteoric rise to darting domination in the last two years, Van Veen would probably be the most exciting prospect in the game. To have scaled the world's top 16 in this day and age without without even making a major semi-final yet shows how consistently brilliant this Dutch dynamo truly is.

Furthermore, he boasts an outstanding head-to-head record against The Nuke. Since being thumped by the teenager at the UK Open in March, he has faced Littler three further times and won all three contests in impressive fashion.

For Littler, this remains one of the few titles still not checked off his list and there is a sneaking suspicion that the double-in format, combined with an extremely short match length, amplifies his extremely scarce vulnerabilities more than any other format.

He exited to Rob Cross last year at the first hurdle, scoring well but suffering woes on the outer ring. Against Van Veen – the best doubler in the PDC this year – he'll need his spellbinding A-game to avoid another early exit.

At the prices, Van Veen simply has to be chanced.

Mike De Decker to beat Peter Wright 2-0 - 11/10 (various)

Shocks are par for the course in the World Grand Prix first round – just ask Joe Cullen, who dumped out James Wade 2-0 last night having suffered a torrid time of things recently.

And yet, I can't believe Mike De Decker is odds against to beat Peter Wright in straight sets here. The reigning champion – who was completely unfancied when blitzing his way to this title 12 months ago – isn't the most reliable type but he couldn't have asked for a better first round draw.

As a darts fan, it's impossible to take any pleasure in Wright's recent struggles. A two-time world champion who has been an icon of the modern era, Snakebite has spent the last few months struggling to average much over 85. Could we be witnessing the final few months of a legendary career.

There is always a sneaking suspicion that Wright can still roll back the years every now and then. But at this moment, it feels like most of that is based on nostalgia alone. The numbers, for an extended period, are telling us otherwise.

There's always a chance of things blowing up in this format but, all being right, De Decker should come through this opening test serenely.
