Gerwyn Price picked up the second trophy of a promising 2026 campaign when defeating Ross Smith 8-4 to lift the 2026 European Darts Grand Prix on Sunday evening.
Price, who was the 6/1 pre-tournament joint-favourite for the title alongside Gian van Veen, had to be patient to grind down Smith in the showpiece. The duo shared an engrossing first 10 legs before the Iceman got the key break in leg 11, punishing missed doubles from his opponents before holding the game out.
Now back up to world number seven after his latest triumph, Price also saw off Dave Chisnall, Chris Dobey, Martin Schindler and Wessel Nijman in Sindelfingen with some scintillating displays.
Despite losing the final, it was another positive week for the in-form Smith, with the Kent native overcoming stern challenges from Cameron Menzies, Josh Rock, Nathan Aspinall and Krzysztof Ratajski.
The run marked Smudger's fourth European Tour final appearance, all coming in the last three years. He is still waiting for his breakthrough win in that sphere, however.
This sustained period of strong form from Price has seen bookmakers slowly trim his 2027 PDC World Championship odds, though PricedUp remain a standout 18/1 on Price lifting a second world crown next January at the time of writing.
For all his brilliance on the floor and minor stages, the Welshman's major record has been underwhelming for a player of his talent, having now gone four-and-a-half years since lifting a premier PDC title – the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts.
Talk of the drought impacting Price mentally extended further when he suffered a disappointing round two exit at the 2026 World Championship to Wesley Plaisier.
He has, however, bounced back since with consecutive major semi-finals at the World Masters and UK Open, and continues to play at an impressively consistent high standard.
The next major on the PDC calendar is July's World Matchplay in Blackpool, where Price made the final back in 2022. Supporters of the Welsh ace can currently get him on side at 12/1 to win the 2026 PDC World Matchplay with sponsors Betfred.
