This Sunday afternoon’s match takes place at Selhurst Park (2pm GMT) as Crystal Palace host second-placed Manchester City. With only a few days to recover from their UEFA Conference League trip to Ireland, the Eagles will at least be glad to be back on home soil as they welcome the Citizens.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord gives his thoughts and betting tips on what is set to be an intriguing match-up.
Crystal Palace come into this match after another solid result in Europe, beating Shelbourne 3-0. It was Palace’s third win in five European matches and their seventh victory in ten across all competitions. Oliver Glasner’s side now sit just one point outside the automatic qualification places for the UEFA Conference League quarterfinals.
This time last season, Palace were seventeenth in the table with just two wins from fifteen matches. Now, they’ve climbed up to fourth with seven wins already this campaign.
Much of that success has come away from home, where Palace sit top of the away form table. At Selhurst Park, however, it’s been a different story. They rank fifteenth for home form, with just two wins from seven, and have recorded the most home draws in the league.
Manchester City arrive after an impressive 2-1 victory over Real Madrid. Despite falling behind to an early Rodrygo goal, it was a deserved win for Pep Guardiola’s side and one that leaves them fourth in the Champions League table, firmly in contention for an automatic quarter-final spot.
In Premier League action, City have won five of their last six matches. They currently sit top of the home form table, with seven wins from eight. Away from home, however, their form is less convincing.
They are seventh in the away form table, with three wins and three defeats, and just one victory in their last three away fixtures — a chaotic 5-4 win over Fulham in a match they had been leading 5-2.
Crystal Palace famously beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final back in May. Prior to that result, City had been unbeaten in seven matches against Palace. In the last eight Premier League meetings between the sides, City have recorded five wins and three draws.
Goals are usually on the menu in this fixture. We’ve seen over 2.5 goals in five of the last six league meetings, with both teams scoring in all five of those matches. This fixture tends to be open and entertaining.
There have been over 2.5 goals in five of Manchester City’s last six matches, and City have scored three or more goals in five of those six as well. As noted above, both teams have scored in five of the last six meetings between these sides, and I expect that trend to continue here.
With Palace having slightly less recovery time and likely fielding a back line like the one that faced Shelbourne, I’ll side with City to edge this one. Palace do pose a threat in the air, though, and Marc Guéhi looks a solid player angle. He scored recently against Fulham and has three shots on target this season from fourteen attempts overall.
2.5pts – Both teams to score – 8/13 (Bet365)
1pt – Manchester City win and both teams to score – 5/2 (Bet365)
0.5pt – Both teams to score & Guehi 1+ shot on target – 5/1 (Bet365)
Total staked - 4pts
