Leeds United vs Hull City: Betting Odds & Prediction
Leeds United vs Hull City: Betting Odds & Prediction

Leeds United look to continue their push for automatic promotion to the Premier League as they host play-off chasing Hull City at Elland Road in the EFL Championship on Monday night.

Leeds will conclude the day’s matches, just like on Good Friday, and will have to respond to their rivals results earlier in the day. Kick-off is set for 8pm at Elland Road.

Recent Form

Leeds United

It has been well documented at this point that Leeds are very much the in-form team of 2024 in the Championship.

Despite Friday’s 2-2 draw at Watford, which saw the Yorkshire side lose top spot to Ipswich Town, Leeds were able to maintain their unbeaten record this year, and remain ahead of Leicester by one point. Leeds have however played a game more.

12 wins from those 14 games has seen Leeds close down a 17-point gap on the Foxes, leaving Daniel Farke’s side in a good position to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

A major factor in this run of form is their improvement in defence. Since a 1-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion in late December, the Whites have only conceded five goals in the league, with three of those coming in their two draws at Huddersfield and Watford.

This turn in form has meant Leeds now have the most clean sheets (18) and the least amount of goals conceded per 90 (0.8) in the entire division.

However, Farke does now have injury problems to deal with over the next few weeks, with Willy Gnonto and Connor Roberts both set to be out for the next three weeks, with the latter sorely missed against the Hornets on Friday.

Hull City

Hull, on the other hand, have hit a brick wall in form since an impressive 2-1 win at Southampton in February, failing to win their five games since, including Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Stoke City.

A major problem which has contributed to this downturn in form is their lack of creativity. The Tigers have overperformed their expected goals by 6.8 goals, showing they are relying on their forwards taking limited chances.

Liam Rosenior’s side are also underperforming their expecting goals against by 6.7 goals, whilst also only keeping eight clean sheets all season, the eighth worst in the division.

However, Hull have been better away from home in 2024, having not lost in their last five away league games, including four wins, stretching back to a 3-1 New Year’s Day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Prediction

Leeds have hit a new level of form and look well equipped to seal promotion back to the Premier League this season. Along with the fact that the Whites are still unbeaten at Elland Road since the final day of last season, the task for an out-of-form Hull is made that much harder.
