Part two of Super Sunday in the Premier League kicks off at 4:30pm GMT as Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord looks for the best betting angles in a match that could have a major say in the race for the top four.
Liverpool find themselves down in sixth position after managing just one win in their last six Premier League matches, with the recent 4-1 victory over Newcastle the only success in that run. While there has been just one defeat during that period – a 3-2 loss away to Bournemouth – too many draws have stalled their push for a top-four place.
Arne Slot’s side have, however, picked up back-to-back wins in all competitions, with a 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag in Europe followed by the Newcastle victory. Liverpool remains a strong outfit at Anfield, having suffered only two home defeats this season, but draws against sides such as Leeds and Burnley have highlighted a lack of cutting edge when games become tight, and space is limited.
Manchester City remain second in the Premier League table after their 2-2 draw with Tottenham last weekend. It was a frustrating result for Pep Guardiola’s side after leading 2-0 and one that leaves them six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
City, much like Liverpool, are also struggling to turn solid performances into wins. They have just one victory in their last six league matches – a 2-0 home success over bottom-placed Wolves – and have drawn four of those six games. Dropping points at home to teams such as Brighton is not sustainable if City are to mount a serious title challenge.
Manchester City won the reverse fixture 3-0 at the Etihad in November. Prior to that, however, they were winless in four meetings with Liverpool, with the Reds winning two and the other two ending in draws.
At Anfield, Liverpool have won the last three head-to-head meetings. Goals have been at a premium in this fixture recently, with under 2.5 goals landing in four of the last five encounters.
Both teams have scored in six of the last ten meetings overall, although notably neither side has found the net in both directions in any of the last three.
I can see this being a very closely fought contest, with both sides capable of getting on the scoresheet. We have not seen many high-scoring games in this fixture lately, with four of the last five finishing under 2.5 goals, and although City won the reverse fixture 3-0, I do not expect a similar outcome here.
Part of me feels this could end up as a 1-1 draw, but Liverpool are always extremely difficult to beat at Anfield and they come into this match having scored ten goals across their last two matches in all competitions.
Florian Wirtz has taken time to settle into life at Liverpool, but all six of his goals this season have arrived in his last ten appearances, which suggests he is beginning to find real form at an important stage of the campaign.
2pts – Draw (and both teams to score) – 7/2 (Betvictor)
1pt – Liverpool to win, both teams to score, and Wirtz to score or assist – 5/1 (Bet365)
