Liverpool vs Manchester City: Betting Odds & Prediction
Liverpool vs Manchester City: Betting Odds & Prediction

Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield for a big blockbuster feature as first vs second lock horns for the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon.

Kick off is set for 15:45 pm at Anfield.

Recent Form

The Reds come into the game in good form since the loss to Arsenal in early February and have won four games in a row. Jurgen Klopp's side sit a point clear of City at the top of the table, and have only lost two home games to City since the Premier League launched in 1992.

Despite their mounting injury problems, substitute Darwin Nunez rose from the bench to bag Liverpool's latest ever Premier League goal last weekend. His 99th minute header was enough to secure all three points away at Nottingham Forest. The Uruguayan also scored twice in the Reds' most recent outing - a 5-1 away victory at Sparta Prague in the Europa League Round of 16.

Pep Guardiola's side also head to Anfield in good form, having won five of their last six in all competitions. The only blemish was a 1-1 home draw over Chelsea in February. City eased through to the quarter-finals in the Champions League with a 3-1 home win over Copenhagen on Wednesday. The result saw them oust the Danes 6-2 on aggregate.

The two sides met in a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture earlier this season after a late Trent Alexander-Arnold finish cancelled out Erling Haaland's opener.

Team News

Liverpool will be boosted by the return of Mohamed Salah midweek. The Egyptian came on in the final 20 minutes in Prague and thought he had bagged himself his 20th goal of the season but VAR ruled it out for offside. Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai also returned, scoring Liverpool's fifth of the night.

More concerns lie ahead for Klopp however as both Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate were withdrawn through injury. Their names sit alongside the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic and Diogo Jota who will all be absent on Sunday.

City will be without Jack Grealish who is out for the rest of the month. Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes will be assessed ahead of the match.

Betting Odds

Despite their poor record at Anfield, Guardiola and co enter the match as favourites. Betfair have City at 13/10 outright, carrying an implied probability of 43.48%. Liverpool meanwhile enter at 39/20 with UniBET to bag the three points (an implied probability of 33.9%).

The draw sits at 3/1 with 888Sport (an implied probability of 25%).

Prediction

Liverpool's ever-growing injury list is undoubtably a cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp. Anfield is a notoriously difficult place to visit for any side however, and the boystrous crowd will no doubt be fully behind the home side as they chase their second Premier League title in Klopp's last season. This is likely the only fixture where you'll be getting Liverpool at near enough 2/1 at Anfield.

City are notorious for their relentless winning streaks in the second half of the season, but getting Klopp and co at those odds on the moneyline are too hard to ignore. While City are right to enter as favourites given their form and Liverpool's injury woes, logic doesn't always dictate at Anfield. Stick Liverpool on the moneyline.
