Newcastle United welcome Everton to St. James’ Park on Tuesday as the home side look for a strong finish to the campaign.
The home side completed a stunning 4-3 comeback victory over West Ham on Saturday, while Everton succumbed to a last-gasp defeat at Bournemouth. Everton secured a 3-0 home victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Newcastle's overall home form this season has been impressive, with Eddie Howe's side averaging 2.13 points per game after 15 home outings this campaign. They have also won their last two games at St. James' Park after going winless in their previous three. They've scored 38 goals on home turf so far while conceding just 19.
Newcastle have found the net in all of their home matches this season and have averaged an impressive 2.53 goals scored per game, compared to only 1.79 on the road.
Their defensive record is a little more concerning, with an average of 1.27 goals shipped on home soil so far. They have kept clean sheets in 47% of those games though, but only one clean sheet has come in their last five league outings overall.
Games at St. James' tend to be highscoring, with an average of 3.8 total goals scored per game there this season.
Sean Dyche's side have surprisingly fared better on the road than at home this campaign. Everton have averaged 1.2 points per game in away fixtures, compared to only 0.93 in their games at Goodison Park.
Their form on their travels still makes for difficult reading, though, with Everton winless in their last eight league outings on away soil. An average of one goal scored per game compares with their 1.53 conceded, with only 27% finishing in clean sheets. Everton have also failed to score in 40% of their away outings so far.
Everton have shipped at least two goals in 27% of away matches, which doesn't bode well against a Newcastle side who have bagged at least three in 47% of games at St. James' Park.
Everton are still yet to register a win in 2024, and despite the disappointing nature of Newcastle's season, the Magpies have impressed in their home fixtures. A Newcastle win is the sensible pick on the moneyline here.
