In his third and final weekend column, Matthew O'Regan flags his favourite prop bets of the upcoming football weekend.
While Xavi Simons isn’t exactly a serial fouler, he made two fouls and picked up a booking against Villarreal. Djed Spence has also upped his foul count this season, committing one against Burnley and two each against West Ham and Bournemouth, picking up bookings in the latter two.
If Spence gets subbed, Destiny Udogie – averaging 1.1 fouls per 90 – would step in. Always worth bearing in mind with the Super Sub feature on Bet365.
The bet mainly hinges on Brighton’s record against left-sided players. Three of the four left-backs to face them this season have been booked. Calvin Bassey made a foul and was booked for Fulham, James Garner saw yellow after a cynical foul where the referee played advantage, Rayan-Aït Nouri was booked after four fouls and Adrien Truffert committed two fouls for Bournemouth.
Since Veltman joined the side, he’s drawn two fouls apiece from Brighton’s two opposition left wingers, totaling seven fouls in just two starts – not to mention the direct Yankubah Minteh also carries a huge threat.
Simons and Spence could be in for a long, scrappy afternoon on the south coast.
Another bet revolving around Veltman here. The Dutch right-back has been racking up tackles when starting this season, making three against Man City and four against Bournemouth.
Right-backs have generally had long afternoons against Tottenham this season: Sonne went blank in Burnley’s opener, but Rico Lewis made two tackles for Man City, Kyle Walker-Peters made two for West Ham, and Mourino made three for Villarreal.
Pedro Porro has been consistent too, making two tackles in four of his five games this season. Against Brighton, Kenny Tete managed three and Jake O’Brien made two. With Ferdi Kadıoglu expected to slot in for the injured Max De Cuyper, Porro looks well placed to boost his tackle tally again.
Anton Stach is wonderful player to bet on. The big German has cemented himself as a mainstay in the Leeds midfield. So far this season his numbers read:
Everton: 1 foul, 2 tackles,4 shots
Arsenal: 2 fouls, 2 tackles, 0 shots
Newcastle: 3 fouls, 2 tackles, 3 shots
Fulham: 3 fouls, 2 tackles, 3 shots
Wolves average 5.4 tackles against per game from opposition sides' central midfielders, giving away around 4 fouls and have conceded 16 of their 55 league shots this season from central midfielders.
Let's chance the busy and effective Stach to have a lively game here and continue that trend.
This actually relies on Graham Potter not being a boring sod and actually picking Magassa, so don’t be surprised to now see Andy Irving rock up on the team sheet.
Tomas Soucek was sent off against Tottenham, leaving Magassa with the perfect chance to start against Palace here.
The youngster looked good in his brief cameo against Spurs, making two tackles in 23 minutes.
Magassa has averaged 3.79 tackles and 2.16 fouls per 90 since December 2023, so is well versed in duels. PLEASE GRAHAM, JUST PLAY THE KID!
