Super Sunday's main event comes in the form of a monstrous North London derby this weekend as Tottenham host Arsenal (4.30pm GMT) in a grudge match of the highest calibre in the Premier League.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord searches for value in picking out the winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham come into this match after yet another defeat, losing 2-1 to Newcastle in front of their home fans. It was their second defeat in a row and fourth in their last six matches. They drew the other two in that run — to Burnley and, bizarrely, Manchester City.
Whilst Tottenham are in dreadful form, new manager Igor Tudor will hope for the usual “new manager bounce”, aiming to produce the kind of performance Manchester United delivered in Michael Carrick’s first match — a derby win.
Arsenal, meanwhile, slipped up again as they dropped two points to bottom-placed Wolves despite taking a 2-0 lead. While they remain top of the table by five points — and not knowing at the time of writing the result of City vs Newcastle — that gap could be down to just two points by kick-off.
Overall, Mikel Arteta knows the title race is still in Arsenal’s hands. Although some tough fixtures lie ahead, their final four matches are Fulham and Burnley at home, plus West Ham and Crystal Palace away. If things are still tight by then, it would take a monumental collapse for them not to see it through.
Working in Arsenal’s favour is their away form. They top the away form table with seven wins from 14 and just two defeats — four points clear of second-placed Chelsea in that regard.
As you’d expect, Arsenal holds the advantage in this fixture, winning the last four in a row and eight of the last 10 overall. At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal have won the last three Premier League meetings, though Spurs had won the three prior to that on their own turf.
Both teams have scored in four of the last five and seven of the last 10 encounters. Over 2.5 goals has landed in eight of those 10 matches as well. However, at Tottenham specifically, only one of the last five meetings has seen both team’s score.
You could argue Spurs are a big price here — 5/1 for the win and 11/8 on the double chance looks tempting on paper. That said, Arsenal have been extremely strong away from home this season, while Spurs have been dreadful at home.
Tottenham sit second bottom of the home form table, level with Burnley, which tells its own story. Only Wolves have been worse.
My main bet will be both teams to score. Arsenal’s defence, while strong overall, has been breached too often recently — even by average sides. Arsenal have also won three of the last four meetings with Spurs, where both teams scored, so that angle makes sense.
I’ll include this in a bet builder to chase a bigger price in what should be an intense, open derby.
2.5pts – Both teams to score – 17/20 (Bet365)
1pt – Arsenal to win, both teams to score & both sides to get 2+ cards – 5/1 (Bet365)
