There’s a full midweek slate of Premier League action for punters to feast on across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Tonight sees Champions League-chasing Liverpool visit the division's bottom side Wolves, who registered only their second win of a torrid season last time out to bring some much-needed joy to the Black Country.
Odds Now football tipster Terry Foord provides his take on the contest and, as always, is on hand with his best bets.
Wolves were the only strugglers celebrating last weekend, as every other side placed 13th or lower suffered defeat. Had they been closer to safety, survival talk might have intensified, but it is more likely that personal pride – and the fire of a West Midlands derby – was the key driver in their impressive 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Rob Edwards will nevertheless have been left delighted with both his side's performance and the result. Wolves have now matched Tottenham’s home win tally this season and sit mid-table in the form rankings over the last six gameweeks. Encouragingly, they also boast a stronger home xG (expected goals) rating than Spurs, Sunderland and Burnley, suggesting their attacking output at Molineux is actually a lot stronger than their lowly league position might indicate.
Liverpool, meanwhile, arrive on the back of a convincing 5-2 win over West Ham at Anfield. The result lifted the Reds above Chelsea, who lost to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday, and moved them to within touching distance of Aston Villa, who themselves were beaten by tonight's opponents. It was close to a perfect round of results for Arne Slot’s men, who now sit fifth and firmly in the race for automatic Champions League qualification.
The Reds have now won four of their last five matches and lead the league for average possession, while ranking second for shots per game. Away from Anfield, they hold the fourth-best xG in the division. Although they have suffered five defeats on the road this season, only one has come in their last eight away fixtures, during which they have secured four wins.
Liverpool dominate the recent head-to-head record between this pair, winning nine of the last ten meetings. Wolves’ only success during that period was a memorable 3-0 home victory in 2023.
Goals have generally been a feature of this fixture, too. Six of the last eight meetings have produced over 2.5 goals, while both teams have scored in all but one of those matches. At Molineux specifically, Wolves have found the net in each of the last three encounters, including that 3-0 triumph.
Liverpool, for their part, have scored at least twice in six consecutive meetings with Wolves. Meanwhile, the West Midlanders’ last three home matches against Liverpool in all competitions have all gone over 2.5 goals, reinforcing the expectation of another open contest this evening.
Wolves look capable of scoring here, particularly given their recent home output and the fact the Reds conceded twice against West Ham. The standout selection therefore has to be a Liverpool win with both teams scoring – combining the Reds’ superior quality with Wolves’ tendency to find the net at Molineux.
For those seeking a bigger return, Liverpool average just over one card per game, making at least one booking a realistic addition to a Bet Builder.
Dominik Szoboszlai is also worth including to score or assist in such a wager, having contributed directly to goals in three of Liverpool’s last six matches. When deployed centrally rather than deeper, the Hungarian playmaker adds significant attacking thrust.
Hugo Ekitike is another appealing inclusion after scoring at the weekend before being withdrawn early, suggesting he was being preserved for this fixture.
2pts – Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 15/8 (Bet365)
0.5pts – Liverpool to win, both teams to score, Liverpool 1+ card, Dominik Szoboszlai to score or assist and Hugo Ekitike to score – 7/1 (Bet365)
Total staked - 2.5pts
