EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal 'invincible' Lauren chats Gunners' double hopes and which current stars would make legendary side

Arsenal 'Invincibles' defender Lauren has named the two active Gunners players he believes would definitely get into his old side.

The North Londoners famously became the first side in Premier League history to go an entire top-flight season unbeaten, with 26 wins and 12 draws helping them secure the title without defeat.

For many Gunners fans, that side is considered their best of the modern era – but this current Arsenal crop have a chance to make their own history in the coming weeks with a five-point lead over Manchester City in the title race and a Champions League final with Paris Saint-Germain to look forward to.

Lauren was a key part of that legendary line-up but believes there are at least two of the current crop who would be starting names on the teamsheet back in that Arsene Wenger era.

Speaking exclusively to Odds Now on behalf of gambling.com, where you can find the best online casino sites, Lauren said: "It's two different teams in different generations, so its really difficult to compare as both played in ways which suited them to perform at their best.

"That said, if you look at the squads as a whole, I definitely think Bukayo Saka would get in there. Declan Rice would get into the centre of midfield too. They are two brilliant players."

Arsenal's defence was fearsome in the Invincibles campaign, with Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure making for a mean central defensive partnership. But Lauren admits a case could be made in that position too.

"It's really difficult to pick between Gabriel and William Saliba too. They are such a good partnership and complement each other the same way Sol and Kolo did. There's not much between them.

"Now it's up for this current squad to take that next step and win the Premier League, which they deserve to do."

Lauren backs Arteta's Gunners to complete famous 9/5 double

The Cameroonian defender is confident that Arsenal will be able to finish the job in this season's Premier League, with bookmakers currently no bigger than 2/7 that they close out a long overdue top-flight title win.

However, the season could yet get even better for the Gunners, with PSG awaiting in the Champions League final at the end of May. The French side are 4/6 favourites to retain their European crown, with Arsenal given a reasonable chance of an upset at 13/10 best price.

That means William Hill go a top-price 9/5 about Arsenal landing a famous double and Lauren agrees it is feasible – even if he does have a lot of respect for their opponents.

He said: "I am confident Arsenal will win the Premier League. They have to control their emotions on the pitch primarily, as they can now see what is in front of them and can almost touch the trophy.

"It's not about tactics any more at this stage. You just need to control the emotions, show your quality and get over the line.

"I've always felt Arsenal have the best squad in the league this year and so it is proving to be the case. They have scored 67 goals, conceded just 26 and so have found a great balance at both ends of the pitch. Their consistency has been superb and that is what wins titles.

"West Ham are up next for them and they stopped Arsenal winning the league a few years ago, so they shouldn't be lacking in motivation to right that wrong and get a huge win on Sunday, which I believe would all but seal the title.

"The Champions League is obviously a different matter but with a defence as good as theirs, you always have a chance.

"PSG are a very good team who play football in the right way. In Ousmane Dembele they have one of the best forwards in the world but also so many great players around him. But it's one game over 90 minutes and I give Arsenal a very good chance of getting a famous win."
