Odds Now's golf tipster Ross Kilvington looks to continue his stellar tipping form with three betting tips ahead of the 2025 Irish Open, which tees off this Thursday.
The DPWT rolls on to Ireland this week as the K Club gets set to host the Irish Open. The venue previously held the European Open between 1995 and 2007, while it also became the first Irish course to stage the Ryder Cup in 2006.
Previous Irish Opens held here were won by Rory McIlroy (2016) and Vincent Norman (2023), and the tournament will return once again in two years’ time.
This event marks the start of a three-week stretch which will see the Irish Open, BMW PGA Championship and FedEx Open de France being held all before the Ryder Cup at the end of the month.
It gives the European team a great chance to fine tune their games ahead of the biennial event as they seek to retain the trophy won two years ago.
Back to the event in focus, now. Arnold Palmer designed this course in 1991 and 15 of the 18 holes have water in play. Measuring in at 7441-yards, the par-72 track will prove to be a challenge, but there are plenty of birdie opportunities.
The previous two winners both finished at double-digits under par for the week, suggesting that the parkland course is there for the taking.
After backing Tommy Fleetwood to win the Tour Championship, we came so close to making it two in a row as Rasmus Hojgaard fell just shy at the European Masters last week.
As usual, I've singled out three selections this week, – one from the top, middle and lower reaches of the betting market.
While it would be easy to back Rory McIlroy at 7/2 for the event this week, I’d rather look a few places further down and plump for Marco Penge at 20/1.
Penge has made a significant breakthrough on the DPWT this season, winning the Hainan Classic and the Danish Golf Championship. This was made even more remarkable as he only returned to the sport in February following a three-month ban.
He enjoyed a week off after finishing sixth at the British Masters and heads into Ireland fresh and full of confidence.
Across the 2025 season, the Englishman ranks eighth for both driving distance (320.88) and greens in regulation percentage (72.91%) on the DPWT.The latter could prove to be invaluable due to the constant long approach shots that are required to reach the putting surface.
Finally, although it wasn’t held at the K Club, Penge finished T12 at this event last year. He certainly looks a tempting price at 20/1, that’s for sure.
Lawrence enjoyed a stunning four days at the European Masters last week, wrapping up his fifth DPWT title by two shots.
Rounds of 63, 66, 63 and 66 in the Swiss Alps were enough to see the South African win here for a second time, making a price of 50/1 at the time of writing far too good to turn down.
Lawrence’s stats, particularly greens in regulation, might not be the best on tour, but his record at the Irish Open is more than respectable.
In 2022, he finished third, before repeating that feat a year later. The latter result is noteworthy as the tournament was held at the K Club.
The South African should arguably have won the event. He shot rounds of 72 and 73 on Thursday and Saturday, with the latter eventually damaging his prospects. He finished two shots behind on Sunday, despite recording a final round of 66.
His victory in Switzerland came just at the right time for Lawrence and he could turn a good season into a great one with a win in Ireland.
Forrest may have missed the cut at the recent British Masters, but he did win the NEXO Championship a few weeks ago.
the Old Course at Trump International Golf Links was the host of this event and the Scot travels to the Irish Open in high hopes, especially as he seems to enjoy playing in the event.
He finished 14th on his debut, while going on to record three top-five finishes between 2021 and 2024.
Forrest claimed third place when this tournament was last held at the K Club, shooting 70 or lower across all four days to miss out on the title by just two shots.
His stats don’t look overly encouraging, but his confidence will be buoyed after securing his second DPWT victory last month.
If Forrest can string together four solid rounds like what he did in 2023, there is every chance the 32-year-old can challenge once again at the K Club.
1.5pts EW - Marco Penge - 18/1 (Betfred - 5 places, 1/4 odds)
0.75pts EW - Thriston Lawrence - 50/1 (Bet365 - 5 places, 1/4 odds)
0.5pts EW - Grant Forrest - 80/1 (Bet365 - 5 places, 1/4 odds)
Total staked - 5.5pts
