Odds Now's golf tipster Ross Kilvington returns to tee up this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship – fresh off the back of a very profitable Ryder Cup.
Ross' main fancy of Europe to win by 1-3 points was a 4/1 winner, while he also correctly picked Tommy Fleetwood to be Europe's top point scorer at 6/1.
That saw him return a whopping 22pts from a 7pt outlay – a 15pt profit!
Let's see if our man can keep that fine form going this week.
Okay. Hands up if you still haven’t recovered from that extraordinary Sunday at the Ryder Cup?
What a victory for Team Europe, defeating USA 15-13 at Bethpage in the most dramatic circumstances. It was a renewal that will live long in the memory of everyone who tuned in – and my nerves were shredded by the time Shane Lowry rolled that winning putt in!
Golf, as in life, moves on quickly, however, with the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships taking place this week.
Played across three courses – St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns – this event is similar to the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Indeed, with the field featuring 168 professionals and 168 amateurs, two separate competitions are taking place – the Team Championship and the DP World Tour sanctioned event.
There is a cut after 54 holes and those who make it will get to play the final round at the prestigious St Andrews.
Four of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup side will tee it up in Scotland this week. Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Robert MacIntyre and Tyrrell Hatton will be aiming to brush off their hangovers and challenge for the title.
Lets take a deeper look at my three selections ahead of one of the most exciting events on the schedule.
Naturally, the aforementioned European heroes lead the way in the betting market. Fleetwood is fresh off winning a first PGA Tour title a few weeks ago, while Hatton has won this event three times during his career.
For better value, however, I’m plumping for Fitzpatrick to end his two-year winless drought. Ironically, his last victory came at this very tournament in 2023.
The Englishman will be buoyed by an impressive display in New York, winning 2.5 points from his three matches to banish what was previously a rotten personal record at the Ryder Cup.
After finishing T38 at the US Open, Fitzpatrick reeled off nine top-20 finishes in his next ten events. He finished T4 at the Open and secured a top-five finish at the BMW PGA Championship.
He is certainly trending in the right direction and a previous success at this tournament will give him a massive advantage psychologically.
That event was reduced to 54 holes due to the weather, but Fitzpatrick shot rounds of 67, 64 and 66 to win by three shots.
More of the same this week wouldn’t go amiss.
A couple of weeks ago, I wouldn’t have touched Brooks Koepka with a bargepole given his recent form – but I believe the five-time major champion has finally turned a corner.
At the Open de France two weeks ago, the American was in contention to win late into Sunday, but failed to make a single birdie on the back nine.
There were plenty of encouraging signs, however. Indeed, Koepka shared the lead after 54 holes while also ranking fourth for stroke average (67.50) and total Strokes Gained (+3.52) throughout the tournament.
The 35-year-old finished T50 here on his debut in 2013, but across four appearances since, he has finished T9 (2014), T2 (2015), T8 (2018) and T10 (2024).
As such, 25/1 seems like a generous price worth chancing.
Taking a look further down the market, Joakim Lagergren is one that stands out at a very decent price.
With finishes of T56 and T54 at the Open de France and BMW PGA Championship, his recent form isn’t eye-catching, granted.
He did finish runner-up to Rory McIlroy at the Irish Open, however, while securing a T8 result at the European Masters the week prior.
Lagergren will relish a return to the Dunhill Links this week, especially with a wonderful record at the tournament. Across his eight appearances in Scotland, the Swede has finished second once, recorded a further three top-four finishes as well as a T12 a– while he has missed the cut just twice.
The 33-year-old could prove to be an excellent each-way option for those feeling more adventurous.
1.5pt EW - Matt Fitzpatrick - 12/1 (BresBet)
1pt EW - Brooks Koepka - 25/1 (Sky Bet)
0.5pt EW - Joakim Lagergren - 80/1 (Sky Bet)
Total staked - 6pts
All bets are 6 places, settled at 1/5 odds for place terms.
