Ryder Cup 2025 top point scorer betting tips: Scheffler to star for USA

Odds Now expert golf tipster Ross Kilvington continues his Ryder Cup 2025 betting preview with a look at the individual player performance markets.

Who will finish top points scorer?

It isn’t long now until the 45th Ryder Cup gets underway at Bethpage Black. The anticipation has been building for two years as Team USA plan to exact their revenge on a European team that were a class above in Rome.

Keegan Bradley is the youngest American captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963. Will this bold strategy pay off for the home side? Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, Luke Donald is captain once again – the first repeat captain on either side since Bernard Gallacher in 1995 – and this could be Europe’s greatest strength.

Having previously looked at more general betting tips for the event, I will take a deeper look into the top scorer market, picking two selections from each team.

This will comprise of someone at the top of the betting market and one value selection.

Top American points scorer – Scottie Scheffler (3/1 @ Sky Bet)

Scottie Scheffler will have a massive part to play in this Ryder Cup. He made his debut in 2021 at Whistling Straits, going 2-0-1. He was still six months away from securing his first PGA Tour win, but the talent was already on full display.

Two years later, however, Scheffler won just a solitary point across his four matches. He and Brooks Koepka were humbled 9&7 by Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg on the Saturday morning.

Since then, the American has established himself as arguably the most ruthless golfer since Tiger Woods. He has won 13 PGA Tour titles, including three majors, an Olympic Gold medal and has been the World’s number one since before that defeat in Rome.

As such, he is certain to play in all five sessions for Team USA this week as Bradley aims to wrestle back the trophy.

Given his status as the de facto leader of Team USA, backing Scheffler to be the top points scorer for the home side at 3/1 is a no-brainer bet.

Top American points scorer – J.J. Spaun (33/1 @ Sky Bet)

I was tempted to plump for Cameron Young as a value bet here, especially considering he is from New York and won the New York State Open as an amateur, shooting 64 in the final round.

However, I cannot get my head around J.J. Spaun being as big as 33/1.

Of course, he might not play all five sessions, but the American won the US Open at Oakmont – a golf course as difficult as Bethpage – and if he hits the ground running on Friday, will make himself undroppable for Bradley.

Spaun may not have a sexy profile like some of the bigger names teeing it up this week but underestimate him at your peril.

The 35-year-old may have some scar tissue heading into the tournament as he was defeated in a playoff at both the Players Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship by Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose respectively.

Still, he has the credentials to do well here. His victory at Oakmont will give him the confidence to be a reliable member of Team USA this year and I can't resist the price.

Top European points scorer – Tommy Fleetwood (6/1 @ Sky Bet)

Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are joint-favourites in this European Top Points Scorer market at 4/1, but I’m going for Tommy Fleetwood to lead the visiting charge.

He will be making his fourth successive appearance in the event and has won eight points in those outings – including four back in the 2018 edition at Le Golf National.

His performances last time out were excellent too, securing the half point needed for Europe to regain the trophy.

With his status as one of the best active players never to have won a PGA Tour title finally off his back, the Englishman heads into Bethpage Black as someone who could easily feature in four or five sessions this week.

If so, expect him to be right up there as one of Europe’s main contributors.

Top European points scorer – Viktor Hovland (11/1 @ Sky Bet)

Rasmus Hojgaard and Sepp Straka are 33/1 and 25/1 for this market, but I can't see either of them winning three or four points.

Shane Lowry has not been in the greatest of form either, while I simply don’t think Justin Rose plays the amount of sessions required to be the top points scorer for the away side.

As such, I think Hovland at 11/1 is excellent value – especially considering he has played in all five sessions at both the 2021 and 2023 Ryder Cups.

At Whistling Straits, the Norwegian won just one point on what was a tough debut. Fast forward two years, and he claimed 3.5 points in Rome, losing just once.

He has enjoyed an excellent few weeks before the Ryder Cup this year. With top-12 finishes in his previous three events, Hovland is ready to produce the goods for Europe once again.
