With the Ryder Cup now on the horizon, plenty of European stars will be hoping to find some form at Wentworth in this week’s BMW PGA Championship.
Golf writer Ross Kilvington tees up one of the DP World Tour’s most popular annual events with three betting picks.
Following a wonderful climax to the Irish Open, which saw Rory McIlroy claim victory in a playoff, the DPWT moves on to Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship this week.
The tournament is the tour’s flagship event, and it always seems to attract a superb field. This year is certainly no different.
Luke Donald will be keeping an eye on his Ryder Cup stars, with 11 of the 12 players he will take to Bethpage teeing it up at Wentworth this week.
Elsewhere, LIV Golf players such as Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed and Joaquin Niemann are in the field. As to are Brooks Koepka and Dean Burmester.
Last year, Bill Horschel claimed his second victory at the event, prevailing over McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence in a playoff.
The roll call of winners since 2018 includes Horschel, Ryan Fox, Shane Lowry, Hatton, Danny Willett and Francesco Molinari.
Last week was one to forget for us at Odds Now, with two of our selections missing the cut and Marco Penge finishing T50.
Onwards and upwards this week. As ever, we have three selections to get stuck into ahead of the tournament.
Hatton began the year well by winning the Dubai Desert Classic, but he hasn’t claimed victory since.
The Englishman finished inside the top ten three times across 13 LIV Golf individual events, yet couldn’t find the breakthrough.
A T4 result at the US Open was arguably the highlight, and now Hatton will be aiming to fine-tune his game heading into the Ryder Cup.
Hatton has a strange record at the BMW PGA. Since making his debut in 2014, he has missed the cut three times, finished outside the top 25 four times, won once (2020) and finished runner-up in 2023.
Basically, you never know what you are going to get with him at Wentworth, but I believe he can become a two-time winner of the tournament this year.
Hatton ranked third for greens in regulation (71.1%) throughout the 2025 LIV Golf League season, while also ranking in the top-15 for birdies (167), and these traits could come in handy over the 7,267-yard Wentworth course.
Matt Wallace performed admirably at the recent European Masters, eventually finishing second. This meant he missed out on the Ryder Cup once more, but he will be looking to prove to Luke Donald why this was a mistake at Wentworth this week.
His best finish at this event might be a T12 last year, but his recent form has been solid to say the least.
He was at his best in the Swiss Alps two weeks ago. Rounds of 65, 63, 65 and 67 saw him miss out by just two shots, but he looked comfortable when seeking to defend his title.
Indeed, he ranked second across the field for Strokes Gained (+3.69), and there is no doubt that he can replicate this sort of performance in Surrey.
Manassero’s resurgence since the start of last year is arguably one of the best feel-good stories in the game.
With four DPWT titles by the age of 20, including the BMW PGA in 2013, it looked as though the Italian was well on his way to superstar status.
It took him 11 years to claim title number five; however, winning in South Africa last year, he has been solid, if unspectacular, this season.
Manassero has secured three top-25 finishes on the PGA Tour throughout 2025, but his form over this course could see him offer another challenge.
He finished T4 here in 2024, and it might have been higher had the Italian not shot a final round of 73 to end his title charge.
The 32-year-old also finished T7 and T17 back in 2011 and 2010 at Wentworth, proving that he knows the course rather well.
At odds of 140/ with enhanced places1, Manassero is well worth a punt this week.
Selection #1 - Tyrrell Hatton – 16/1 (Various, 8 places)
Selection #2 - Matt Wallace – 66/1 (Various, 8 places)
Selection #3 - Matteo Manassero – 140/1 (Bet365, 10 places)
