Odds Now's golf tipster Ross Kilvington returns with his latest exclusive event betting preview – this week focusing on the DP World India Championship.
The DP World Tour moves from Spain to India this week as the inaugural edition of the DP World India Championship takes place at Delhi Golf Club.
Several European Ryder Cup stars will be teeing it up, including Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry in what is a relatively solid field this week.
Add in Brian Harman, Ben Griffin and Anirban Lahiri, and the fans will be in for an exciting week in Delhi.
While the vast majority of the field will be playing the course for the first time, Delhi Golf Club has hosted the Indian Open 30 times since 1964, although it hasn’t been back since 2016.
As such, picking a winner is slightly more difficult with no course form to go on. Despite this, McIlroy and Fleetwood offer next to no value at odds of 4/1 and 6/1, respectively.
Looking further down the betting market is the way to go this week, and we at Odds Now examine three selections that could go well in the Indian capital this week.
As mentioned, many of the field haven’t played the course, but John Parry has. He secured a top-20 finish at the 2015 Indian Open.
The tree-lined course, which features narrow fairways, fits right into Parry’s game. Indeed, in both the Soudal Open and Magical Kenya Open, the Englishman finished 4th and 2nd this year, with both tournaments played on similar types of narrow, tree-lined courses which emphasise accuracy off the tee and into greens.
All of this points to a player who has the ability to do well here this week. He finished third at the Dunhill Links Championship just two weeks ago, following that up with a T23 at the Open de España last week.
So far this season, Parry ranks third for Strokes Gained Approach (+0.99) and ninth for greens in regulation percentage (71.38%), showcasing how impressive he is with his iron play.
If he plays to his best, the 36-year-old could claim his first DPWT title of 2025.
Earlier this year, Lawrence finished fourth at the Soudal Open, showing correlating course form which could stand him in good stead at Delhi Golf Club this week.
The South African won on tour as recently as August at the Omega European Masters, but failed to crack the top 20 in his four starts since then.
There were signs of improvement in Spain last week. Lawrence ranked first in Strokes Gained Approach (+2.53) out of the entire field. If this sort of ball striking is on display across all four days in India, he could have an excellent week.
He is certainly trending back in the right direction, and a victory at the DP World India Championship will see him take a big step forward in moving into the top 50 in the world.
Qualifying for major championships is exactly the type of enticement he needs.
One player that I like the look of who is further down the betting market is Darius Van Driel.
The Dutchman finished second at the Soudal Open this year, losing out on the title via a playoff. Furthermore, he also won the 2024 Magical Kenya Open, a year after securing a T11 finish at the same event.
Van Driel’s recent performances have been solid, rather than spectacular. Indeed, he has made the cut in four consecutive tournaments, yet his highest finish is a T10 at the FedEx Open de France.
The 36-year-old ranks 24th on the DPWT for driving accuracy (62.28%), which could come in handy with narrow fairways and tight tee shots. With previous success on courses that are like-for-like compared to Delhi Golf Club, 100/1 for Van Driel could turn out to be a bit of an oversight by the bookmakers.
1.5pts EW - John Parry - 28/1 (Sky Bet)
0.75pts EW - Thriston Lawrence - 50/1 (Sky Bet)
0.5pts EW - Darius Van Driel - 100/1 (Betway)
Total staked - 5.5pts
