Odds Now’s golf writer Ross Kilvington returns with his latest event preview, teeing up three selections from the upcoming Procore Championship.
Following a short break after the FedEx Cup playoffs, the PGA Tour returns with the Procore Championship this week.
Previously know as the Frys.com Open, Safeway Open and Fortinet Championship, this will be the 19th staging of the event.
It doesn’t usually attract a star studded field due to its place in schedule, but this year is different. The 2025 Ryder Cup is just two weeks away, meaning several members of the US team will be teeing it up in California.
Indeed, the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young are taking part as they look to fine tune their games ahead of the Bethpage Black showdown.
Scheffler, of course, starts as overwhelming favourite at Silverado Country Club this week, but at odds as short as 21/10 with some bookmakers, other plays offer far better value.
As per usual, we at Odds Now pick three selections from the field in our preview of the first event in the PGA Tour’s Fall Series.
Thomas is the second favourite this week and his form at this event is solid when he adds it to his schedule.
He was fifth two years ago, T4 in 2019 and T8 back in 2016, showcasing plenty of course form.
It has been a solid 2025 for Thomas, who secured his fourth straight Ryder Cup appearance recently, being one of Keegan Bradley’s picks.
Thomas won the RBC Heritage along with finishing second three times and securing a further four top-tens, including at the Tour Championship.
The two-time major winner ranks sixth on tour for Total Strokes Gained (1.12) and third for birdie average (4.45 per round) while his putting stats have been excellent. Indeed, he ranks second for putting average (1.68) and third for putts per round (27.84) this year.
The American has never won in California. Might this be his week?
Maverick McNealy will be disappointed to have missed out on a Ryder Cup spot, but what better way to prove that was a mistake by winning here in California.
He may not have won in 2025, but it has been an excellent year for the American. McNealy has played superbly at some tough courses. Second at Riveria and a T5 at Muirfield Village.
More recently, he finished third at the BMW Championship before ending his season with a T23 result at the Tour Championship.
With no Ryder Cup to focus on, McNealy will be aiming for his second PGA Tour title this week.
In just his third PGA Tour start, McCarty won the Black Desert Championship in October last year, securing him an exemption on tour through to 2026.
While 2025 may not have yielded any more victories, McCarty has still enjoyed a good first year on tour.
In total, he secured seven top-20 finishes, including an impressive T4 at the RBC Canadian Open.
Having finished T14 at the Masters earlier this year and T20 at the Players, McCarty knows what it takes to shine in the biggest events.
