2025 Cambridgeshire Festival betting tips and insight

Races Now's Harry Fowler is on hand to guide you through the three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting from Newmarket with insight and betting tips – with Saturday's action top of the agenda here.

It’s the third and final day of the Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket, and what a day we have in store.

Two Group 1 races, a quality Group 2, and the feature of the week – the big Cambridgeshire Handicap, with 24 runners spread out across the Rowley Mile.

Let's get into it!

Cambridgeshire Meeting betting tips – Saturday September 27th 2025

1:50pm – Tattersalls Online Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2) – 1m

We kick off the day with a Group 2, where the favourite is Bow Echo, who has looked very impressive in both of his starts.

Last time, in a Listed race, he beat a well-regarded Juddmonte colt in Publish. What struck me most was the manner of victory – Publish came alongside, looked a real threat, but Bow Echo found more effortlessly and pulled away to win by a length.

I think he’s top class and ready to take the next step.

Harry’s Selection – 2pt win - Bow Echo - 15/8 (Coral/Ladbrokes/Hills)

2:25pm - Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1) – 6f

The first of the Group 1 races, and what a contest this promises to be. The Lowther one-two reoppose, and Aidan O’Brien brings two of his star fillies into the mix. The pace scenario is intriguing – Beautify looks likely to try to make all, while her stamina over 7f last time suggests she won’t be stopping.

True Love, on the other hand, is all about speed, and that could play against her if they go hard early.

With that in mind, I like Royal Fixation. I think she can sit just off the pace and strike late. I’ve been a big fan of hers for some time, and I’m not getting off the train just yet. With the depth of opposition, I’d rather play her at SP (or at least with BOG) – she was short at 13/8, but she’ll be bigger on the day.

Harry’s Selection – 1pt win – Royal Fixation (SP)

3:00pm - Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes (Group 1)

The second Group 1 of the day, this time for the colts.

Wise Approach is a short-priced favourite for Godolphin, and rightly so in what doesn’t look the strongest renewal. The second favourite, The Publican’s Son, shaped well on debut, but I question the strength of that form. The winner disappointed next time out, and his late finish may have been flattered by the leader tiring.

Wise Approach looks a very solid favourite. Connections skipped the Gimcrack to head to the Morny instead, which I think was telling. The Morny form remains strong—Gstaad’s defeat to Zavateri was no disgrace, and Venetian Sun had excuses and is clearly talented.

Harry’s Selection – 2pt win – Wise Approach 11/10 (Various)

3:40pm - bet365 Cambridgeshire (Heritage Handicap) – 1m1f

The feature race of the week, with 24 runners (a smaller field than the maximum 35, but still plenty competitive). Favourite Treble Tee comes here after a brilliant Doncaster win and carries just a four-pound penalty.

I’m backing two in here. The first is Tribal Chief, who beat Treble Tee by half a length at Goodwood when giving him a pound. Today he’s three pounds better off, and I think there’s more to come.

The second is Real Gain, who caught my eye last time when finishing third at Goodwood after a 367-day layoff. He should come on for the run, and this nine-furlong trip looks ideal.

Harry’s Selections – 0.375pt each-way Tribal Chief 12/1 (Betfred/Coral/PP, 6 places) + 0.375pt each-way Real Gain 12/1 (Bet365/Coral, 6 places)

4:15pm - British Stallion Studs EBF "Jersey Lily" Fillies' Nursery Handicap – 7f

A tricky nursery with a tight market and nine runners.

Quiescent appeals most. Her debut reads well, given the winner looks above average. She disappointed in testing ground at Goodwood but more than made up for it when bolting up by four and a half lengths last time.

An 80 rating looks lenient, and while she hasn’t been tested on today’s ground, I don’t think it will be an issue.

Harry’s Selection – 1pt win Quiescent 13/2 (Hills)

4:45pm - Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Div I) – 7f

In the first division, we have a short-priced Godolphin favourite in Act Of Kindness, a 3,700,000 gns purchase.

Nothing else appeals much from a betting perspective, but it will be fascinating to watch the boys in blue unleash their big-money buy.

Harry’s Selection – No Bet

5:20pm - Blandford Bloodstock Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Div II) – 7f

The second division looks more appealing.

If Quiescent goes well in the 4:15pm (like I think she will), it will boost the claims of Zabeel Flower, who was beaten by her last time. I think the return to quicker ground will see her in a much better light after being sent off 8/11 to beat a Wathnan runner on soft.

She sets a solid standard and should be very hard to beat.

Harry’s Selection – 1.5pt win Zabeel Flower 6/4 (Bet365)

5:55pm - Ambassador Cruise Line Handicap – 7f

The meeting ends with a competitive 15-runner handicap.

Dance In The Storm is one I’m convinced is well handicapped. I’ve backed her the last twice—she was unlucky at Goodwood and didn’t get the rub of the green at York either.

With a clearer run this time, she should go very close.

Harry’s Selection – 1pt win Dance In The Storm 5/1 (Bet365)
