Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled on Odds Now for SD's Lunchtime Tip, too – it lands exclusively on site between 12.30pm and 1pm every weekday.
Valence d'Aumont sits 2lbs below his last winning mark and drops back in trip here following a sound enough effort last time out.
He's now down to a mark of 83, which is 34lbs below his highest winning mark of 117 – though that was achieved back in 2021. Though unlikely to scale those heights again, I do believe there's wriggle room in his current rating.
He ran a sound enough race over course and distance when 20lbs higher than this back in April of last year. He finished fourth there, beaten 16L by the winner Gods Own Getaway. The winner went on to win two runs later off a 9lbs higher mark, before eventually being beaten off a 14lbs higher mark by Parisencore. Also, the runner up in that April affair (Hall Lane) managed to win off a mark of 110 a few runs later.
The selection's most recent run signalled a return to form is edging closer. He ran okay behind handicap blot Pescatorius – beaten 15L back in third place. He maybe found the trip stretching his stamina, given he only weakened out of it late on.
Now he drops back a furlong and with the yard firmly amongst the winners, he could well pop up in this weak-looking affair.
This next one is a bit of a cliff horse for me, to be honest. Honneur De Sivola remains a maiden after 12 chase runs under rules – yet his mark is just too lenient to ignore in my view.
He's now down to a rating of just 75, which makes him clear bottom weight in here, with Lilly Pinchin booked to ride. He's now a massive 16lbs below his opening chase mark and, more importantly, he's now 14lbs below his career best effort to date.
That came over this same trip at Huntingdon. He finished a clear second behind easy winner Regarde that day, beaten 6L by the winner. He did pull 32L clear of the horse in third place, however.
Regarde won that race off a mark of 100. He's now rated 122, having placed off 120 in a competitive handicap at the Showcase meeting a few weeks ago.
Honneur De Sivola also placed over course and distance off a 12lbs higher mark than this last summer, finishing third behind easy winner Malago Rose.
The first time cheekpieces go on today, alongside the returning tongue tie. He should strip fitter for the reappearence run last time out and I believe this is as good a chance as he will ever get to belatedly open his chase account.
Recoded hasn't exactly shown much in his two handicap runs to date. He's now down to a mark of 103, with the jockey taking off another 7lbs this afternoon via her claim.
The horse drops back in trip this time following what can only be described as a middling effort on seasonal reappearence when beaten 8L back in 5th place. That was his first run since having wind surgery – plus it was also his first outing in 365 days. So he was fully entitled to need that effort.
His best effort over hurdles to date come over this trip. He bumped into a useful performer that day in Ballytechno and was beaten just over 1L by the winner. That horse went on to win off a mark of 109 on handicap debut next time out and has also won one of his two chase runs this term – that victory coming off a mark of 118.
If he shows that kind of form here, he would have decent claims off this type of mark. Interestingly, trainer Harry Derham has only sent four handicap hurdlers to this venue previously, with one of them winning and one of them placing.
The yard are in flying form and that's enough to tempt me in here.
